Will there be Tasini - Clinton debates?
Can find no mention of it on Tasini's website.

We have *two* candidates on the US Senate primary ballot in NY.

Seems to me they'd have lots to discuss.

1. my guess is Clinton would never agree to debates . . .
she has a huge lead by virtue of name recognition and incumbancy and certainly wouldn't want to give people opportunities to see and hear Tasini . . .

2. But why isn't Tasini pounding away at this?
My guess is that your guess is correct.

In fact, I went back to Tasini's website and found tucked away in the corner the news that Tasini had accepted a LWV invitation but Clinton had not.

I suggested that he move that issue front and center since most DEMS don't even know she has a primary opponent and he has no money for TV.

3. "Move it front and Center" How?
Move it front and center in front of who? For Tasini to move it in front of anyone someone has to cover him saying that Clinton is afraid to have the issues debated, if no one covers him saying that, it won't be moved to where people will read or hear him. Tasini is building coverage in alternative circles, like at kos, like here at Democratic Underground where he is starting to get mentioned more often, by focusing on the real issues that matter to many Democrats. His position on Israel and Lebanon is more of interest to me than how he feels about Clinton refusing to debate him. He wrote a blog on it:

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2006/7/26/94049/0027

If Tasini builds enough attention among grass roots Democrats on the issues, than it it is more likely the media will cover him saying Clinton doesn't want to debate him on those issues.

4. To the *top* of the web page for starters.
I did some petitioning for Tasini and can speak with some authority on this part of it: most Democrats, even politically savvy Democrats, are *unaware* that Clinton is being challenged at all, let alone by Tasini.

It's a primary *election*. In addition to articulating policies and a philosophy superior to those of your opponent, the idea is to get *largest* number of votes as possible for your candidate.

>>> His position on Israel and Lebanon is more of interest to me than how he feels about Clinton refusing to debate him. >>>

And to me , also. But lacking free media coverage, and in the absence of advertising $$$. that leaves the WEB and debates as his venues of opportunity.

It's not either/or. If he can succeed in pressuring Clinton to even a single televised encounter... this will reach a lot of people who are not attuned to Tasini's presence in the blogosphere. Plus there's the attendant publicity that even the MSM gives the usual back-and-forth between underdog and favorite over debates, #'s of debates, etc. (All of this is much more notice than Tasini's getting right now, which is close to zero) Add in the free press coverage involved in the perfunctory debate post-mortem, and Jonathan is 'good to go'.

5. To the top of the page indeed, lol
We have no disagreement here. Of course you are right about the impact of pressuring Clinton to even one television encounter. We really are discussing what can help make that happen. To boil it down to a work, what will help make that happen in "Buzz", buzz about the Tasini campaign that makes the Tasini campaign harder for the main stream media to ignore, and if the Tasini campaign becomes harder for the main stream media to ignore, it becomes harder for Hillary Clinton to ignore. And over the last few years, let alone the last few months in CT, the netroots/grassroots have demonstrated that when we set our minds to it, we can generate "buzz". So let's get on with it. To the top of the page indeed!

On Tuesday, Howard Wolfson, a Clinton spokesman, sharply criticized
Jonathan Tasini's comments about Israel.

"It's outrageous, offensive and beyond the pale," said Howard
Wolfson.

What do folks think of that? Have you read Tasini's blog about Israel?
