Idea for a Draft
With the Middle East conflict getting worse, at some point the administration may institute a draft. I was thinking about it, and I came up with an idea for a draft I *might* actually support.

If a draft were to occur, a good number of eligible young people, including myself, could be drafted for a war they don't believe in. At that point, their choice would be to either draft dodge and leave the country, go to jail, or go fight a war they don't believe in. All bad choices.

What if, instead of having everyone draft eligible, the government conducted a census-type exercise, asking people whether they support war in the middle east?? Those who say yes become draft eligible; those who say no do not.

I'd like this, although it will never happen. At least the only people fighting would be people who support the war.

4. That thought crossed my mind too
But that wouldn't be the main reason for doing it. The main reason would be to have soldiers who want to fight fighting, and leaving those who don't want to fight at home.

Makes sense to me. Don't want someone apathetic to the cause like me out there when a perfectly good warmonger sits home on his ass.

5. Neocons HAVE instituted the draft, via no job economy
The scions of the rich and infamous have no worries. Kids of the middle class and working poor have no future.

Soon, young people will be enlisting just to get fed. They are already enlisting just to get some education and a bit of health care.

And the neocons persist in calling them volunteers.

10. Then we could hold it against them...
...the way congressional republicans always attach things like the minimum wage hike the the estate tax removal. Just like they'll say "Democrat so and so voted against a minimum wage increase!!!" we can say "You said you didn't support the war."

9. Excellent idea, with only one drawback:
The way support for the Iraq war is dwindling, there might not be enough draftees to make a dent!
