Rangel says he will quit Congress if Demos don't get off their asses...
Things are beginning to heat up:

Democrats consider the 2006 elections their best chance in a decade to recapture the House, with widespread unease over Iraq and with Republicans lagging in polls. Rep. Charles B. Rangel (N.Y.), who would become chairman of the Ways and Means Committee if Democrats picked up the 15 seats needed to regain the majority, said in an interview yesterday that he will quit Congress if the party does not capitalize on an unparalleled opportunity.

1. I've really liked the stuff Rangel has done
but this disappoints me. Childish to the 10th power.

3. This could be the classic locker room tirade...
designed to motivate the team where the coach calls everybody a bunch of worthless bums not worthly of licking his boots?

7. Except he's not the coach.
Instead he's the player who says he's too good to be a part of the team. Would that really motivate you or boost morale?

10. Truthfully, I have no idea where he's coming from with this..
but Rangel hasn't always been know for his restraint. He's a cool guy though, I've spoken to him on the phone a couple of times. He's very unpretentious.

15. You're so right. I met him briefly at a march in NYC before the war
on Iraq. I thanked him for coming out and shook his hand...he answered "No, thank You."

4. Gggggrrrrr!!!!! Why can't they get on the same page!
"At a meeting last week, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) criticized Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean for not spending enough party resources on get-out-the-vote efforts in the most competitive House and Senate races, according to congressional aides who were briefed on the exchange. Pelosi -- echoing a complaint common among Democratic lawmakers and operatives -- has warned privately that Democrats are at risk of going into the November midterm elections with a voter-mobilization plan that is underfunded and inferior to the proven turnout machine run by national Republicans.

The Senate and House campaign committees are creating their own get-out-the-vote operations instead, using money that otherwise would fund television advertising and other election-year efforts. Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Rahm Emanuel (Ill.) -- who no longer speaks to Dean because of their strategic differences -- is planning to ask lawmakers and donors to help fund a new turnout program run by House Democrats. He recruited Michael Whouley, a specialist in Democratic turnout, to help oversee it."

And there's where the problem lies. The elected Dems refuse to work with the organization that connected to all 50 states and support it. Pelosi trying to lead one train, Immanual another, and still another with Schumer sticking their noses into individual races to get their favorites in the race. :banghead: At some point, they need to understand that they can't be running their own little campaign on the side and expect to win.

6. People might call this childish or defeatist or whatever, but I
would like them to explain why this is wrong. They are sitting on their comfy asses letting the bush** administration screw us into the ground.

Sheesh. People bitch when nothing is said or done, then they bitch when something IS said or the lazy, lackadaisical attitudes of our elected are brought up.

Can't win for losing I guess.

11. Charlie Rangel is among a small group of elected Democrats
who are still in possession of a "working set". WIthout people like him and Conyers out there making waves, I don't know WHAT this Party would have become by now.

Bless Charlie.

12. I don't put Rangel in the same class as Conyers
I see Rangel as being much more of an establishment democrat.

14. I agree... to a certain point.
But, most of the members of the CBC are still out there slugging away.... sometimes all alone. I salute them, but agree Conyers is in a class by himself.

16. Dirty Laundry! Getyer Dirty Laundry here!
Displine? Staying on message? Working together to defeat a common enemy? that's just soooo 1994 Republican, I guess.

Yeah, I know, it's a slanted media depiction of something that's probably nowhere near as nasty as it's being made out to be, but still--I gotta think where there's smoke there's at least some fire, here.

17. I can somewhat understand the frustration here..
if the GOP is consistently beating them at get-out-the-vote efforts, then something serious needs to be done about it, and quick. GOP approval ratings are lower than they've been in a long time, so it's now or never for the Democrats.

18. Emanuel and Pelosi should take a lesson from U.S. Grant...
Instead of whining about what you don't have, do the job with what you do have...it worked for Grant and it can work here...Schumer at least seems to be adopting that philosophy!!!

I understand the frustration of those whose job it is to get Democrats elected this year, wanting the DNC to divert more money to immediate concerns...but Dean has the long term interest of the Party to worry about. He doesn't only want us to win this cycle, but every cycle down the road...he is building a base for future success..
