Great LTTE re: Clinton stumping for Lieberman.
Edited on Wed Aug-02-06 07:44 PM by MarkDevin
From today's (Manchester, CT) Journal Inquirer (www.journalinquirer.com):

To the editor:

Realizing that his campaign to win the Connecticut Democratic Party's nomination for the Senate has turned from his fantasized "Joe-mentum" to the reality of "No-mentum," Sen. Joseph Lieberman--in a desperate move--reached out to the man at whom he directed a public tongue lashing, former President Clinton.

Until now, Sen. John McCain has been the political poster child for low self-respect. After being slimed by the Bush campaign in the 2000 Republican primary, McCain completely embraced the Bush administration for the past six years. So much for Mr. Straight Talker.

McCain is now joined by Clinton and Lieberman as "no self-respect" poster children, although it's hard to say who has lower self-respect--Lieberman or Clinton.

"Holy Joe" is the Democrat who stood on the Senate floor, in moral outrage, to condemn Clinton's behavior, calling it "immoral" and "disgraceful." And this is the guy to whom Lieberman turns to bolster his sagging campaign?

Clinton, having been on the receiving end of the public scolding, comes to Connecticut to tell everyone he loves Joe. It's too much to stomach.

To add insult to injury, Clinton trivializes the overriding issue of our times, the Iraq war, calling it "a pink elephant in the living room" that shouldn't be dividing Democrats. Excuse me? Tell that to the families of the more than 2,500 who've been killed, wounded and maimed in a war that wasn't necessary, and yet which is endorsed by Lieberman, who is unrepentant to this day.

Thanks, but no thanks Mr. Former President. You squandered your chances to be a great leader and your legacy has left the Democratic Party in a shambles from which we're just beginning to recover.

Connecticut Democrats will hopefully put Lieberman and Clinton behind us, and move forward with a fresh, intelligent, capable, unbeholden-to-special-interests senator named Ned Lamont.

5. Don't forget the Telecommunications Act of 1996.
That piece of crap was literally written by industry lobbyists and easily ranks as the worst thing ever to happen to American radio and TV. And it was a gift from that great liberal, Bill Clinton.

15. Well, that's damn decent of him, ain't it?
A prominent Democrat says he'll support the winner of my state's Democratic primary. Gee, Bill, how can we ever thank you? :sarcasm:

9. Too bad Holy Joe was "too good" to allow Clinton
to campaign for him in 2000. But then, Joe didn't seem nearly so keen to win that race as he is this one.

18. But Joe *WON* in 2000! It just wasn't the race we all cared about.
(The fact that he ran for Senate at the same time he
was running for VEEP should have been an immediate
disqualifier.)

16. Great letter. Especially liked the "just beginning to recover" optimism

Also, just to clarify, "Joementum" *is* "No-mentum."

"Joementum" was coined, if I recall correctly, very shortly after his "three-way split-decision for third-place" statement following the New Hampshire 2004 Primary -- deriding his total lack of political mojo, and pitiable cluelessness regarding same.

Just heard another good one within the last 24-hours here on DU (though I can't say if it was freshly coined) ... Joeblivion. (i.e. where Joementum is next destined)

19. Actually "Joe-Mentum" was coined just before New Hampshire 2004

Lieberman says he's got the 'Joementum'
'I think it's going to keep building to a surprising finish'
Monday, January 26, 2004 Posted: 3:26 AM EST (0826 GMT)

(CNN) -- Buoyed by a rise in the latest CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll two days before the New Hampshire primary, Sen. Joe Lieberman said Sunday his campaign is gaining support, especially from independents, that will propel him to victory nationwide.

Writing off speculation that he may make a poor showing in New hampshire and drop out of the race, Lieberman told CNN's Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer that his campaign is picking up, as he put it, "Joementum."

"The experts were saying this guy is nowhere in the race. Since the debate Thursday night, the people of New Hampshire are making up their minds. And you know what? They're sick of the outside experts telling them who's going to do what in this primary on Tuesday," he said. "Thank God they have the last word."

20. Right, but it was my (mis?)understanding that we then co-opted it ...
... after the NH primary as a term of giddy derision, with a touch of schadenfreude, taunting Lieberman's NH performance and his delusional "three way split decision for third place" statement.

It appears I may need to step outside my own little bubble occasionally.
