Saw this today, and thought I'd share it:

"When the power of love becomes stronger than the love of power, we will have peace." -- Jimi Hendrix

That is all.

2. Do you mean how he played it or simply that he played it?

4. how he played it (although...
...there were those who were offended that he--a Vietnam vet--would dare play it at all)...and the criticism is well-deserved. I was there; by the time he finished the first stanza, i knew it was time to leave.

5. I don't know anything about the event you describe
...but others have certainly been criticize for their performances of the SSB. Jose Feliciano comes to mind.

6. I'm guessing Woodstock ...

I rather like the version.

Gotta wait past some improved intro to get to it. And it's got a lot of improv in it, which is what some people don't like.

OnEdit: It also flows into Purple Haze, which I'd forgotten until I watched this. I suspect a lot of people don't like that either, but I rather like that as well.

7. yes, Woodstock (aka, Mudstuck)...funny thing...
...i had just turned 18 when i went, and was too young to see the movie when it came out a year or so later (R-rating and all); when i finally could sneak into a theater to see it, i spent the entire time wondering where they got the soundtrack from...certainly didn't sound like that from the mud-puddle i was sitting in. But then, the real significance of Woodstock had little, if anything, to do with the music, such as it was, and mostly wasn't.

"I am told that Wagner's music is better than it sounds." Mark Twain

10. Heh...well ...

I'm sure the movie soundtrack had the benefit of being run through a mixer run by a team of technicians who spent hours correcting for the acoustics.

My biggest problem with 60's/70's music, which I do tend to like anyway, is that so much of it sounds so bad live. I've seen a lot of the old bands perform live over the years, and while I'm sure age and weariness with playing the same songs over and over and over has something to do with it, few of them really sound good live. Some can put on a helluva show, though.

I can't stand the sound of CS&N live. Stephen Stills in particular can't seem to sing without going flat three bars into whatever song he's singing. But, they do put on a good show.

Dylan is a strange counter-example. I like his music, mostly for its message, but I hate recordings of him. I also hate hearing him play indoors. Outside, in the open air, with bad acoustics ... his voice seems made for that ... or maybe it was the herbal aroma wafting through the atmosphere that makes me say this. :-)

9. In Feliciano's case, it was because he had the nerve to sing it in Spanish
My, how times change! :sarcasm:
