"RNC Chief Faults Democratic Leaders on Terrorism."

"Minn., Aug. 4 -- Ken Mehlman, chairman of the Republican National Committee, denounced Democratic Party leaders Friday, saying they would "surrender important tools" in the fight against terrorism.

Amid low approval ratings for President Bush and diminishing support for the Iraq war, Mehlman's speech at the RNC's summer meeting echoed a theme voiced by White House adviser Karl Rove in January: that Republicans should make terrorism a central campaign issue in the fall campaigns and argue that Democrats hold a pre-Sept. 11 view of the world.

Mehlman said that if the Democrats win control of Congress in the Nov. 7 midterm elections, party leaders will stop the National Security Agency from eavesdropping on foreign terrorists and will pursue impeachment of the president.

"America faces a critical question," Mehlman said. "Will we elect leaders who recognize we're at war and want to use every tool to win it, or politicians who would surrender important tools we need to win?"

Is it time to remind the public loudly who presided over THIS?!

When Democrats were in charge of "protecing America" the Twin Towers looked like this!

DNC Response to RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman's Remarks at Summer Meeting
August 4, 2006

The Democratic National Committee issued the following response to Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman's remarks at today's RNC meeting:

"Ken Mehlman's desperate rantings won't change the fact that Bush and his rubber-stamp Republicans are in deep trouble with the American people who can see right through their trickery and spin," said Democratic National Committee Communications Director Karen Finney. "The American people will not be fooled again. No matter how hard Mehlman and Republicans try to spin the political landscape, they can't run away from the fact that President Bush's policies have taken America in the wrong direction, and Congressional Republicans have been a rubber-stamp for his failed agenda. From the war in Iraq, to health care, to skyrocketing gas prices, creating good paying jobs, lowering gas prices, investing in lifesaving research like stem cells, to keeping America safe at home, Republicans have failed miserably. Democrats offer a new direction that puts America's hardworking families ahead of special interest, partisan political games.

"We certainly won't be lectured to by Republicans who have sent our brave troops off to war without the proper equipment, continue to ignore the facts on the ground as Iraq slips into civil war, ignore the growing threats in Iran and North Korea or blocked Democrats' efforts to close the gaps in our security right here at home.

"Do they really think they can win on a platform of tax breaks for their pals in big oil, pharmaceutical companies and a handful of the super rich at a time when hardworking American families are struggling to make ends meet, our seniors can't afford their prescription drugs and our children have been saddled with trillions in Republican debt?"

8. I don't know why they don't come out and mention "Republicans were in
charge on 911?"

I'm glad they responded, but they failed to address the specifics IMHO.

Thanks for posting this Rose Siding.

4. How will stopping eavesdropping on non-terrorist Americans
Edited on Sat Aug-05-06 02:31 PM by zbdent
hurt monitoring foreign terrorists? I mean, if you know a call is going to or coming from a "Terrorist" (teachers union, environmentalists, and Quakers notwithstanding ), then you're already aware of a terrorist, right?

5. WHO blocked the tracking of terror networks' funding in the 80s and 90s?
Edited on Sat Aug-05-06 03:01 PM by blm
Poppy Bush and his cronies.

That's a FACT, freepers. John Kerry tracked terror networks and their funding by international financiers for over 5 years, and Poppy Bush and his cronies BLOCKED him every step they could to protect their own involvement.

Focking fascists and their fundie freeper defenders.

7. How's the search for the anthrax killer coming, Mr. Mehlman?
How many containers coming through our ports are being inspected? Given states and localities any additional money for more police? Got a plan for the next natural disaster?

Answers:

1. It's not.
2. Not very many.
3. Nope.
4. How do you know there's going to be another natural disaster?
