Even Republican Congressmen are Ashamed to Be Republicans These Days

In case you missed it, there was a story in the Washington Post that elaborated on a key shift in Republican Members of Congress in their election campaigns: hide the fact that you are a Republican. Many are trying their hands at campaign messages touting their independence from the president and Republican leadership. Even the Chairman of the NRCC, the Republican congressional campaign committee, has been running ads for his reelection in which he refuses to admit his party affiliation.

Now I can understand why some of these folks would be ashamed to be Republicans. After all, the party has completely abdicated its oversight responsibilities and has become just a rubber stamp for the Constitution-bashing Bush White House.

But who do these candidates think they are going to fool? Most of these vulnerable Republican Members of Congress voted in lock-step with Bush when it really counted throughout their tenure on the Hill. That means they voted for media consolidation, to politicize Terri Schiavo's plight, to side with pharmaceutical companies instead of seniors on the Medicare prescription drug bill, and to cut taxes for the wealthy time and time again. Just to name a few.

Every Member of Congress has a voting record. They can claim to be independent voters, but their voting records contain the truth.

1. Michael Steele, the Oreo Kid, over in Maryland
has been trying to pass himself off as an "independent"

And was it Dewine in Ohio whose websote dropped all references to him being Republican? If it wasn't Dewine it was someone like him.

3. If he was on once, that's way too often
Here's his most recent claim to fame....

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/07/25/AR2006072501052.html

He mostly sucks up to white racists by peddling a phony story about "liberal activists" throwing oreo cookies at him.

5. He truly is a piece of work....
I loved that after he announced that the reporters had screwed him by quoting him when they had agreed not to, one of the reporters produced the fax in which he confirmed the wording of the quotes with Steele's campaign manager.

Let's also point out how many Republicans around the country are desperately trying to avoid getting photographed with either Chimpy or Deadheart Dick. Here in NJ, Junior Kean was "delayed in traffic" when Chimpy showed up.

6. Perhaps the Dems
in those Districts with Repugs hiding their "R"s should run ads reminding the Voters how many times they voted in lock-step with the REPUBLICAN Party and with Bush. Tie them in every way possible to that damn "R" they were so damn proud of a couple of years ago.

8. Faux Shame, Faux Shame
There was no faux shame back in 2000, during the 'Great Get Over It' orgy of Republicans high fiving at their election theft prowess, when they were all cock-struttin' on teevee.

9. Oh, one of Kennedy's ads (R-MN) is a jaw-dropper.
He starts out by saying "I am a Republican, and I vote that way on taxes and spending. But on other issues I cross party lines." and goes on to mention the environment, No (read every) Child Left Behind, where he votes DEMOCRATIC.

I couldn't believe it. A repuke actually confessing that his party is wrong, on major issues.

And this is a CAMPAIGN SLOGAN??
