"Weak and Wrong: Today's Defeat-ocrats": A message from Ken Melman
This E-mail just popped into our "In" box, addressed to my hubby:

Dear (Hubby),

In politics, there are turning points that can define a political party for decades to come. Yesterday's defeat of Senator Joe Lieberman in the Democrat primary in Connecticut is such a moment. Because he stood for a strong national defense and victory in Iraq, Joe Lieberman was successfully targeted for defeat.

For a political party to reject a respected Senator who just six years ago was its candidate for Vice President is virtually without precedent. It speaks volumes about the new Democrat Party: if you stand for a strong defense and victory in the War on Terror, you have no place in the party and you must be purged.

Watch the video and get the facts about what this means about the decline of the Democrat Party - from leadership that would "pay any price, bear any burden" to defend freedom to leaders who want to cut and run from the War on Terror, and surrender other tools needed to keep America safe.

The message from Connecticut is clear, and Ned Lamont isn't alone. He is joined by Rep. John Murtha, architect of the Democrats' position on Iraq and the man who wants to be the next House Majority Leader, who claims America is more dangerous than Iran and North Korea and says, "We've become the enemy." And by Howard Dean, who calls the idea of victory in Iraq "just plain wrong." Watch how the new Democrat Party always chooses weakness over strength, blaming America first.

With 90 days to go before the election, National Democrat leaders have made their choice in favor of defeatism, isolationism, and blaming America first. Where do you stand?

Sincerely,

Ken Mehlman
Chairman, Republican National Committee

The link on the video, "Weak and Wrong - The New Democratic Party",
is a montage of the far right's favorite bogeymen:

Governor Dean,
Ned Lamont,
Representative John Murtha,
Michael Moore, and
. . . Kos

Unbelievable. :eyes:

Maybe they figured out I didn't really call all the people in Virginia that I said I had in one of their GOTV campaigns?

11. Hey, we're in Virginia! :)
We started getting these messages last year during the Virginia gubenatorial campaign. Hubby and I didn't bother to tell them we were working for Tim Kaine - we just forwarded them over to Kaine HQs. ;)

My better half thinks that his ex-brother-in-law sent Hubby's name in to the RNC. The "ex" is quite the right-wing nutcase.

accordingly.

9. You Know What I LIKE About This?
It is actually starting to feel like we've got two political parties again in this country, although I may be a little bit hasty in that assessment as, contrary to what Mr. Mehlman would like to think, the leaders of the Democratic Party have been very reluctant to pick a fight with the Republicans. If anything, the leaders of the Democrats are just as nervous as Karl Rove is right now. We're actually puckin' with the status quo! Ouch!

Damn right the War in Iraq is headed in the wrong direction! Damn right we need a change of elected officials! Damn right we need to do something different in Iraq if we want to protect America's image abroad and at home, and if we want to save the world from unnecessary death, dismemberment and destruction! Damn right, Ken! Whatchu got to say about it?

Man, it feels good to fight back. I felt this feeling in Pennsylvania when they ousted the Dover school board and kicked 18 Republicans out during state primaries; it feels a little bit stronger now that Connecticut has kicked an 18 year veteran of the Senate in the scrotum--I'm sorry, the "Joetum"--and, dare I say it? I think it might be spreading across this land, from sea to shining sea.

God Bless America in her quest for her liberal soul!

13. Amen and amen - You can sense the desperation in Melman's message
It would seem as if, after six years, we're finally experiencing a moment of clarity.

17. Well, Some Of Us Have Clearly Seen the Horrible Path We've Been On...
What we need now is clarity from our pals, the Opposition Party.

You know who I bet has gone through several cell phone batteries today?

Howard Dean.

He's probably loving this.

We're like the untapped syrup in a maple tree, us Progressives are. All we need now is for some cohesive leaders with vision to come along and "Tap the Sap."

Which probably wouldn't make for a good bumper sticker, which is probably why I'm not affiliated with anyone's campaign.

I hope the Democrats capitalize on this. I thought they would in 2004 and they didn't. I guess they needed a few thousand more dead soldiers and another war or two to move them to action.

But, I will forgive them for all if they can just wrest this country away from the GOP in 3 months.

19. I definitely agree with you, Baseline Reality - Governor Dean has,
no doubt, gone through a couple of boxes of Duracells by now!

We Democrats have to give him credit for initiating the "Fifty State Strategy". It seems to be paying off in spades for us.

I don't want to get to excited just yet, though - you know the old axiom, "Hope for the best, but expect the worst?" We're hoping that the electorate will turn up in full force and support our candidates, but we're afraid we'll be let down again.

I'm beginning to feel much more optimistic about our ability to take over the House, though. Would it be a stretch to fantasize about retaking the Senate, as well? :)

10. They're desperate and obviously wayyyyyyy out of touch.
Anti-war citizens are no long 'out of the mainstream'. The diehard war supporters and stay the course goons are now 'out of the mainstream'.

The weak on Iraq/weak-on national security link is no longer valid and no longer resignates.

They're scared and desperate, and its oh so obvious.

15. Nick, they are defecating themselves
The majority of Americans are now against the war. The GOP and the far right just don't get it (or don't want to get it).

It's nice to see that the Democratic Party is starting to regain its spine!

12. How insanely stupid are the morons who fall for this stuff?
Are repubs honestly that gullible? 'John Murtha, architect of the Democrats' position on Iraq and the man who wants to be the next House Majority Leader, who claims America is more dangerous than Iran and North Korea and says, "We've become the enemy." And by Howard Dean, who calls the idea of victory in Iraq "just plain wrong." Watch how the new Democrat Party always chooses weakness over strength, blaming America first.' mehlman just throws out insults like a sad limbaugh clone with turrets syndrome.

A better question would be why do we let these hatemongers get away with slander time after time. If Dean ever sent out a letter like that the repubs would be screaming from the rooftops about "the politics of destruction".

14. The only military "Victory in the War on Terror" is Muslim genocide.
We would have to KILL ****ALL*** OF THEM to make them stop. Anything less will not work, so it will result in Eternal War that does not achieve it's objective. Is that what Mr. Mehlman wants? Whether He supports the effective solution, genocide, or the ineffective "solution" Eternal War, Mehlman and his kind are dangerously obsolete.

We MUST talk more about what they are proposing. And screw that "I don't talk about hypotheticals . . ." BS! Are we just going to let the killing go on because we won't project some theories about what COULD happen?

16. "Perpetual war for perpetual peace" is their motto
Edited on Wed Aug-09-06 09:18 PM by Penndems
They don't care how many of our soldiers are killed, as long as it isn't one of their kids. That's always been their mindset. It was the same thing during the Viet Nam War.

Ditto with civilian casualties. Just "collateral damage", the cost of war, to those bloodthirsty SOBs.

22. Heard these exact same words against Dems...
Edited on Thu Aug-10-06 07:09 AM by Q
...during the Vietnam 'police action'. As it turned out...the liberal Dems and others were right about the Vietnam war. The government lied to the American people about why we 'needed' to be there and how 'well' the war was going.

Republicans are using the same tired rhetoric now...and still lying about the need for and success of the so-called war. RWingers use war to question the patriotism of their opponents. Nothing new here. This is what fascists do...

Expect to be in Iraq / ME as least as long as Vietnam...and as many to die for a lie.
