Salazar backs Lieberman’s independent bid for Senate
Thursday, August 10, 2006

The Daily Sentinel

Sen. Ken Salazar, D-Colo., told The Daily Sentinel on Wednesday he plans to continue to support centrist Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman in his bid to retain his current Senate seat.

Lieberman lost his primary bid against antiwar candidate Ned Lamont by a margin of 115,106 to 104,753 votes Tuesday night.

4. I don't know if I'd call Salazar a MAJOR crack...
Most likely, he'll make campaign appearances for Lieberman, and the crowd will be wondering "who is this guy?" Salazar is simply not a big enough name in the Democratic Party yet.

It's not the same as if a Clinton, Boxer, or even Schumer had endorsed him.

Most people can't name more than a handful of Senators outside of the two from their own home state. And Salazar hasn't even been in office two years, and has done nothing during that time to bring attention to himself. He may go on to do great things and become a household word, but, for the moment, he's about as close to a nonentity in the Senate as there is on the national scene.

11. Not all senators are equal
he really is just a low level jr. senator from Colorado. Since most people probably can't even name their own 2 senators, I hardly doubt that few people will have a clue who Salazar is

8. don't be too sure about that--ken has pulled some really bone-headed
stunts his short time in office (his introduction of, and vote for, gonzales, for example) I have been telling him regularly that, had we wanted a conservative catholic republican we could have voted for pete coors.

I will be supporting and voting for any progressive 3rd party candidate running against him. No way in hell will he ever get my vote again if he takes this course.

He doesn't support Democratic unity, then he certainly can't expect me to, where he is concerned.

14. Please help me get this whole thing straight...
Joe is running as an Independent, which is a totally different party, right? If Joe wins in November, he'll become a senator from the Independent party, no? Which would throw a wrench into the works for a Democratic majority in the Senate, right? So any Democratic congressperson who supports Joe is rooting for a Republican senate, right? Please straighten me out on this, because it's just too frightening to think about.

17. Salazar isn't the only Senator backing Lieberman
Carper from Delaware, Pryor from Arkansas and Inouye from Hawaii are also supporting Lieberman in the general election. Interestingly enough, Lieberman has also been endorsed by the Republican candidates for Senate in Washington and Minnesota. In addition, the Republican mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomberg, has endorsed Lieberman.

These people are foolish to say the least. Going directly against the democratic voters' choice. There will be hell to pay, and they will begin paying it as they see less campaign contributions, less support, and less votes.

Don't let them define who we are.

I think the CT primary was good for democracy - whether you be a Republican or a Democrat - voters should always be allowed to vote and speak at the polls and whatever that is ... is.

I suppose it's only a matter of time before Herr Kos starts demanding that Harry Reid strip these Dems of their committee memberships.
