PA Senate candidate likely to be bounced from ballot - bad signatures
http://politics1.com/blog-0806.htm#0810

PENNSYLVANIA: GREENS LIKELY TO BE BOUNCED FROM STATE BALLOT.
After a review of candidacy petitions filed on behalf of Green Party US Senate candidate Carl Romanelli and gubernatorial candidate Marakay Rogers, Dems plan to file a lawsuit bouncing them off the ballot. State Democratic Chair T.J. Rooney said a detailed review of the petitions -- a signature drive admittedly financed almost entirely by GOP supporters of embattled US Senator Rick Santorum -- showed 69,622 of the 94,544 signatures are likely invalid. "Phony names, fake signatures and a tremendous amount of illegal and deceptive practices were uncovered during our thorough and aggressive analysis," said Rooney. The Dems mocked the submitted petitions for being so sloppy as to contain signatures purporting to be for Jesus Christ, John Kerry, Lee H. Oswald, Terri Schiavo and Mickey Mouse. Romanelli countered the move is a heavy-handed, undemocratic effort to block him from running. Various sources involved in Keystone State politics told Politics1 they are confident the Democratic legal challenge will succeed in disqualifying the statewide Green nominees.

5. You know, Rick and cronies paid for those damn signatures
the least they could have told the people gathering them was to make sure they were all legitimate because they know that the democrats would challenge them.

Santorum and Romanelli have not only embarassed themselves but embarassed a Green Party whose platform claims that they were above this sort of corruption. I just don't understand why the Green Party isn't doing more to denounce this guy - it truly tarnishes their reputation.

And I know people are going to slam me claiming democrats take repuke money blah blah this and blah blah that. But I'll use this analogy of why Romanelli is a scourge.

Everyone knows I'm a pretty avid non-smoker and I've been in enough flamewars here on DU about non-smokers vs. smokers and their rights. So imagine how the smokers would feel if someone caught me smoking? Here I am this non-smoker yelling at smokers that they have no right to invade my clean air and then I'm caught smoking. Perhaps the smoking was an isolated incident and I lay claim that "Hey I was drinking and sometimes I just crave a cigerette when I drink". But I'm sure plenty of smokers would see that as nothing more than hypocrisy to my anti-smoking crusades.

Green Party needs to wash their hands of Carl Romanelli. It's not like he's the only Green running in the fall election (and rumor has it the Green GOvernor candidate also benefitted from the signatures) but I'm sure there are many local greens running for office in state who earned their rights legitimately to be on the ballot and shouldn't be tarnished by the stupidity of the few in their party

6. Amen Lynne!
It's been something that's been racking my brain since all this began. I can't figure out for the life of me how they don't see how bad this make Greens look. They put out a release on the Party website saying they take money all the time from Dems, Republicans, and Greens alike. But they don't even address the negativity that being even remotely associated to a man who's never given a damn about anything the Green party stands in his time in the Senate. There are about 4 Green candidates in PA for the House (Dave Baker, Titus North, Greta Browne, and Derf Maitland) that have been pretty clean from what I know, along with others running for State Assembly and the State Senate that I assume are clean. But the actions of this rat bastard Carl Romanelli is an embarassment to every honest Green not just in PA but nationwide. I've E-Mailed both the Party chairperson in PA Paul Teese but one of the National Party co-Chairs Rebecca Rotzler, telling them to please get Romanelli out of this race and support the candidates in PA already on the ballot there. It may be a longshot of an attempt, but someone's gotta voice concern over this garbage.

8. They must have hired Custer Battles to collect them (snicker)
I found it appalling how many DUers were frantically making excuses for this....just as I wonder anew about the Green party in other states.

7. Same thing with Nader OR 2004
Funded by the GOP and when our Dem SOS insisted the signatures all be legal, oh the outrage!! And then Greens have the audacity to pretend to own the "moral high ground". What a friggin' joke they have become.

9. Thank god!
I'm pretty sure Ed Rendell would win with or without a 3rd party candidate in the race, but I was a little worried about Casey being able to beat Santorum, even though he's still ahead in polls. Now I'm pretty confident that he'll win.

11. Green = Getting Republicans Elected Every November
It has been said before, but I will say it again. At least Greens might not be able to carry out their goals in PA.
