Washington Whispers: GOP voters: like a rock
http://www.usnews.com/usnews/news/articles/060809/9whisper.htm

Many Democrats may hate the war in Iraq and itch to dump the president, but a new GOP survey shows that Republican base voters stand ready to jam the November polls to return their team to Congress. A three-page-survey memo
http://www.usnews.com/usnews/news/articles/060809/RNC_memo.pdf obtained by Washington Whispers reveals that despite reports of some dissatisfaction with the economy, the war, and President Bush, 81 percent of Republican voters are "almost certain" to vote and an additional 14 percent say they are "very likely." It goes without saying that they'll vote Republican: By a margin of 84 percent to 6 percent, they will pull the GOP toggle switch in the voting booth. And here is something you don't hear very often: 88 percent of Republicans approve of how the prez is handling his job. What's it all mean? Analysts say that GOP voters are ready to dig in and play defense against the charges Democrats are tossing at Republican candidates.

The memo also helps to define what issues work for Republican candidates. The survey--officially tilted "Base Mobilization Survey Finds and Conclusions"--divided the issues into foreign and domestic. On the foreign side, it's all terrorism and war with polling that finds GOP voters back the war, worry about Democratic attacks on the fight against terrorism, and think the Patriot Act, moves to tighten the border, and even telephone surveillance are good things. And their favorite domestic issues aren't a surprise: They are pro-tax cuts, big on cultural values, and worried that Democrats want to put too much bureaucracy in healthcare. Another nonshocker: They don't like the media's war stories, thinking that they are too negative. Some 60 percent of the GOP base expresses "extremely high dissatisfaction" with the coverage of the war.

Dems better damn well turnout or it will be

One thing I'll hand the repukes is that they damn well know how to press their supporters buttons and turn out the vote.

We'll see in November if Mehlman and Rove are blowing smoke, but I sure don't like how they've been able to beat the terrorism drum again to lily-livered 'mericans the past two days.

7. World News (another RW rag) isn't reporting what Wolfie Boy...
..Candie Crowley, Tweety, and most of the talking heads and political pundits have been going on and on and on and on about how energized and anxious DEMOCRATS are to vote in November.

I don't watch Faux, so I can't say what their crew is saying..

But it's been continous news on the other networks on how Democrats are pacing like caged cats ready to VOTE in November.

Screw what some conservative fishwrap is saying!!!!

Aren't YOU anxious to vote? Of course you are!!

Wipe those tears Rambo.. WNN&Daily Report has no clue!

3. Hmmm...I just read something the other day that said most Repugs were
unhappy with their leadership, and would likely just stay home, or vote for Dems. I'll see if I can find a reference for that. It certainly goes against this article!

6. Zogby says 54% of all voters are unhappy with the direction the country is
going in. If these are both true, then a lot of repubs are unhappy but will for more of the same. Go figure.

http://www.zogby.com/news/ReadNews.dbm?ID=1155

A wider Zogby Interactive survey of both Republicans and Democrats nationwide showed that terrorism and security was the top issue facing the nation, eclipsing the war in Iraq – the poll was in the field for the first hours of aftermath following the arrest of suspected terrorists early Thursday who were allegedly planning to blow up airliners headed for America. Apart from such developments, the Iraq war has dominated as the most important issue in the minds of Americans for years.

Slightly more than a third – 35% - said they thought the nation was headed in the right direction, while 54% said things are off on the wrong track. The wider survey carries a margin of error of +/- 1.9 percentage points.

11. A lot of GOP voters I know won't be going to Nov 06 polls
Edited on Fri Aug-11-06 04:25 PM by El Fuego
Because they won't even know there's an election going on! They don't read newspapers, they never watch the news. They only vote in the presidential race every four years.

For once I am rejoicing in their ignorance! :bounce:

On edit: The survey was of the "GOP base." It wasn't the GOP base which put bush in the White House. They don't have the numbers. The ignorant masses helped put him there. The ones who won't be voting in 06.

16. This doesn't matter
Neither the Democrats nor the Republicans can win an elections by themselves. As long as independents remain put off by the current Republican leadership, and the direction things are going overall, then we'll make solid gains.

Besides, as the the pool of self-identifying Republicans shrinks due to widespread dissatisfaction, all they're going to be left with are the hard-core supporters. All the "Republicans" who might otherwise would have said "I'm not voting Republican this year" probably aren't going around telling pollsters they're Republicans. With the soft supporters falling away, why would anybody be surprised that the remaining "base" will stillv vote Republican?

22. I don't like that magazine much. Never did. They skew everything
toward the Republicans and they drumbeat every war that comes around the block.

Cook and other very sharp political analysts suggest that the GOP is poised to get its sorry fanny whomped on Nov. 7th.

23. These people will never vote for Democrats anyway--forget about 'em
The Democrats need clearly articulated, common sense, positions that will excite THEIR base and make sense to people who are NOT part of the Republican base.

They also need to point out again and again that Republican policiies do not work, will not work and cannot work.
