4. What is really confusing...
Edited on Fri Aug-11-06 04:31 PM by Tempest
Is how Israel is telling the Lebanese to leave the area and then bombing them as they're trying to leave.

If that's not a war crime, the term has lost all meaning.

3. It doesn't matter if Olmert accepts the deal or not
It has to be approved by the Israeli cabinet.

Fat chance of that happening.

5. well their approval numbers are in a free fall from what I read
They may not do the right thing for the sake of doing the right thing, but any politician would care about that I would think...

7. Reality doesn't agree with your position
Look at Bush's approval rating and the fact that 60% of Americans want to withdraw from Iraq.

He doesn't care, he's staying the course.

The same is true with most government leaders who are corrupt.

Especially considering this:

6. It's not a cease fire. They can continue the slaughter for at least
two or three weeks as the U.N. tries to find some country who will commit 15,000 troops into a war zone without a cease fire. If you read the damn thing they continue as they are until some country agrees to put 15,000 troops in harms way without the right to defend themselves from Israel's military actions.

8. Interesting quote from NYT article:
"A senior administration official in Crawford, Tex., where President Bush is on vacation, said today that it increasingly seemed that Israel would not be able to achieve a military victory, a realization, he said, speaking not for attribution, that led the Americans to get behind a cease-fire."

9. Is there any provision for a ...

"signing statement" when approving a cease-fire?

11. The cease fire is dependent on the cessation of shelling
else Israel will have no choice but to react. But it's hopeful to watch the security council speeches.
