My response from Senator Bill Nelson.
After the vote last week in the Senate on the minimum wage/estate tax, I wrote a scathing message to Senator Nelson because he voted for it. I told him that I was going to have to rethink my suppport for him in November because he sided with the repukes. I feel the minimum wage should be a stand alone bill and not be tied to helping the wealthy have more tax breaks, nor should wait staff be paid less than the min wage and make up the difference with their tips. Here is the response I just received.

Dear XXXXXXX:

Thank you for contacting me regarding H.R. 5970, a bill recently considered by the U.S. Senate.

I voted in favor of this legislation because I supported the key provisions included in the bill. Besides the estate tax issue, the bill would have increased the federal minimum wage and allowed Florida residents to deduct their State sales taxes from their Federal income tax liability--a provision worth $730 million a year to Florida taxpayers.

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any future concerns.

2. The estate tax issue is overpowering the rest.
I am furious with him. I told his office last time I might vote for Leroy Collins instead. They got furious. I said well you make us angry also.

I don't know yet what I will do. I really don't. He goes out of his way to anger with his votes.

4. There are two others running.
Collins is the son of former Dem governor LeRoy Collins. He turned Republican, but he is not extreme like Harris and Will McBride. I doubt he would cater to the religious community as much as Nelson does.

I am so angry with Nelson right now, I can not see straight.

5. I think there's an independent running against both of them in Nov.
However, if Harris wins by 1 vote, you name is mud!

6. Please don't do that.
So many of us have called and talked for hours to Nelson's aides. They are contemptuous of the people's views. I have always voted party line, and look where we are here. All Republicans, all day, all night, all the time, wall to wall.

Nelson needs to pay attention to the people in the party.

8. I got the same letter
Invited him on my program to explain his vote. Of course, he is far too good to appear on a lowly radio program from his own state. He has, however, appeared a few times on the local Right-Wing morning show.

10. I wrote him before the Iraq invasion. He still voted for it. Another repub
lite. Haven't written any of my reps since then. None of them are listening.
