Halliburton is a unique kind of company. -- Dick Cheney
For those of you who don't get the Hightower Lowdown, I thought I'd share some data compiled in the latest issue.
It sort of explains part of the "stay the course."

"Halliburton is a unique kind of company." -- Dick Cheney, September 2003

Total value of contracts given to Halliburton for work in the Bush-Cheney "War on Terror" since 2001.........More than $15 billion

Amount that Halliburton pays to the Third World laborers it imports into Iraq to do the work
in its dining facilities, laundries, etc.....................................................................$6 per 12-hour day
(50 cents per hour)

Amount that Halliburton bills us taxpayers for each of these workers..........................................$50 a day

Amount that Halliburton bills taxpayers for:
-- A case of sodas........................$45
-- Washing a bag of laundry...............$100

Halliburton's campaign contributions in Bush-Cheney election years:
-- In 2000: $285,252 (96% to Republicans)

Plus $365,065 from members of its board of directors (99% to Republicans)

Increase in Halliburton's profits since Bush-Cheney took office in 2000.......................................379%

Halliburton's 2005 profit (highest in the corporation's 86-year history)......................................$1.1 billion

"Since I left Halliburton to become George Bush's vice-president, I've severed all ties with the company, gotten rid of all
my financial interest. I have no financial interest in Halliburton of any kind."
-- Former CEO Dick Cheney, Meet the Press, September 2003

Annual payments that Cheney has received from Halliburton since he's been vice-president:
-- 2001: $205,298

Cash bonus paid to Cheney by Halliburton just before he took office...........................................$1.4 million

Retirement package he was given in 2000 after only 5 years as CEO.............................................$20 million

Number of times in the past two years that Republicans have killed Senator Byron Dorgan's amendment
to set up a Truman-style committee on war profiteering to investigate Halliburton..............................3

Naughty word Cheney used during a Senate photo session in 2004 to assail Sen. Patrick Leahy,
who had criticized Cheney's ties to Halliburton........................................................."Go #@!% yourself."

4. Cheney-- Halliburton
For every message such as this we see why the republicans are desperate to hold on to congress. Look at all the profiteering the republicans and their relatives have received thru this war. Starting with bush's uncle bucky and his armor company.

Way back when Prescott Bush showed just what kind of people the bush's are when he raised money and sold ammo to Hilter and Nazi Germany, before and during the Second World War. And the only way he would stop is his bank and assets of that bank were seized and shut down.

So we don't need to tell the country what they are. The thing is the media so controlled by the republican owners will never tell.

This should be the first investigation launched by congress when the democrats take over. When the November party is over then we will see heads turn.

6. 379% increase in Profits since "War on Terror"
Yet no investigation of "War Profiteering"? How many companies in America not involved with "War on Terror" have made a 379% increase in Profits?

7. HAL/KBR were in HORRIBLE shape before that most convenient invasion --
they'd layed off all their international HR & recruiters, they were going to lose their ass over Dresser Industries asbestos claims (Dick bought Dresser for HAL. Oops.) and much more.

What a turnaround!

He said he sent at least 4 bags of laundry per week = $400 x 52 weeks = $20800! For one soldier! :grr: :grr: :grr:

We could have used that money to cover phone expenses and child care increases. I feel really sick right now. :puke:

12. That's all the evidence of criminal profiteering we need to
send these warmongering parasites up the river. For every American who suffers from lack of adequate healthcare or chooses between heat, medicine, or food -- we owe it to them to keep on this until the Bushboys are brought to justice.

17. Cheney continues to hold 433,333 Halliburton stock options
An analysis released by a Democratic senator found that Vice President Dick Cheney's Halliburton stock options have risen 3,281 percent in the last year.

Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) asserts that Cheney's options -- worth $241,498 a year ago -- are now valued at more than $8 million. The former CEO of the oil and gas services juggernaut, Cheney has pledged to give proceeds to charity.

<snip>

The Vice President has sought to stem criticism by signing an agreement to donate the after-tax profits from these stock options to charities of his choice, and his lawyer has said he will not take any tax deduction for the donations.

However, the Congressional Research Service (CRS) concluded in Sept. 2003 that holding stock options while in elective office does constitute a "financial interest" regardless of whether the holder of the options will donate proceeds to charities. CRS also found that receiving deferred compensation is a financial interest.

Cheney told "Meet the Press" in 2003 that he didn't have any financial ties to the firm.

Hmmm, wonder what the chairty of his choice would be? But you can trust our good buddy Elmer Cheney. It's not like he's ever lied before or anything.

23. A little quick arithmetic:
Annual payments that Cheney has received from Halliburton since he's been vice-president:
-- 2001: $205,298
-- 2002: $162,392
-- 2003: $178,437
-- 2004: $194,852
-- 2005: $211,465

Cash bonus paid to Cheney by Halliburton just before he took office...........................................$1.4 million

Retirement package he was given in 2000 after only 5 years as CEO.............................................$20 million
=======================================================================================

Total $ 22,352,444
Divided by 2,607 troops killed

Gives $ 8,574 for each one.

Ka-ching.

27. Try this contact info
Hightower Lowdown
PO Box 20511
NY, NY 10009-9991

or

editors@hightowerlowdown.org

The information came from the "Are You Safe Yet?" poster in the August 2006 issue (Vol. 8 No. 8) of the Hightower Lowdown.

I have no doubt that the HL people can back up the infomation that they compiled.
