COMMENTARY

A Team Player

August 27, 2006
By JOE LIEBERMAN

Snip...

Much has been made of the difference between Ned Lamont and me on the war in Iraq. The most important difference, and the most relevant right now, is how we end the war.

As someone who has supported the war, I feel a heavy personal responsibility to end our mission in Iraq as quickly as possible. But I believe that Ned Lamont's strategy of pulling all our troops out by an arbitrary, politically determined date will lead to the collapse of Iraq, Iran surging in, and Iraq becoming a safe haven for al-Qaida and a launching pad for terrorist strikes against other countries in the region and the United States.

Our disagreement, however, does not end there. I believe that the best way for us to win the war in Iraq is to come together - the administration, Congress, and Republicans and Democrats - to find a solution that will allow our troops to come home with Iraq united and free, with the Middle East stable and the terrorists denied a victory. My opponent has a different idea: unilateral, arbitrary withdrawal, and never mind the consequences.

Snip...

I have a different plan. I want to build a new politics of unity and purpose that will cut through the gridlock in Washington and solve problems for my constituents, my state and my country. After serving you for 18 years in the Senate, I still believe that together, Team Connecticut can renew America's greatness and make our future as good as we all want it to be.

Plan emphasized: Bush's "Freedom Agenda"

Then the "team player" goes on to attack the winner of the Democratic primary.

7. Team America Fuck Yeah!
At least the crass egotists agenda is plain for all but the most brazenly ignorant to see.
Cmon Hilary, Cmon Reid, hold a joint press conference and tell this asshole to step down for the good of the nation, the party and the country.
Shame this arrogant prick into retirement.

8. Republicans do not "come together" with Democrats...
They are totally un-compromising.

They control the agenda in the House and Senate and have shut the Dems out of the dialog on every issue.

9. Unless I am incorrect, isn't he on the ballot on the "CFL" party ticket?
Conneticut (Conneticutans?) for Lieberman Party?

Now that sounds like a team player, rather than someone into self-promotion. Build a "party" around your own name. What idiot advised him to do that? I guess that they had to have some 'party affiliation' to gather signatures?

10. If you want to be a team player with bullies
that means you've joined the bullies and will do whatever they want you to do.

Everybody who survived public school knows that one.

I'm beginning to think the one factor that should disqualify anyone from public office should be PREP SCHOOL. They never learn how to stand up to bullies.

They went in full bore and told the world to kiss off.

Let them figure a way out.

12. More Lieberman Contortions On Iraq

CT-SEN: More Lieberman Contortions On Iraq

By Greg Sargent | bio

In an Op-ed piece in today's Hartford Courant, Joe Lieberman wrote: "I believe that Ned Lamont's strategy of pulling all our troops out by an arbitrary, politically determined date will lead to the collapse of Iraq..." OK, then, a question: Why doesn't GOP Rep. Chris Shays' new call for a withdrawal, most of which Shays says could take place next year, constitute the setting of an equally "arbitrary, politically determined" date? Why wouldn't Shays' proposed withdrawal lead to the "collapse" of Iraq, too?

13. He said he'd "consider" Shay's proposal
And yes, Shay said almost the same thing Lamont has been saying all along.

But Joe always always attacks Democrats and supports Repugs. Even when the R's disagree with him. He attacks Lamont for saying basically the same thing that Shays is now saying, but he will "consider" what Shay said.

Bastard. I'm glad he's out of my party.
