OMG, just got home after some lady went ape shit cuz they wouldnt put FOX
News on the lone TV monitor inside the Jiffy Lube where I was getting my oil changed.

There were FIVE OF US in the waiting room watching MSNBC, but yet she intimidated this young employee into switching to FOX. :wtf:

I couldn't take it, so I said to the customer You've gotta be kidding me. There are five people watching this program, and you have the nerve to ask for the channel to be switched?

The poor cashier didn't really know what to do, but ended up keeping it on MSNBC because she said that's where it's normally set. (yay)

The bitch (customer) was so furious, she said she was friggen taking her business elsewhere! WAH WAH

Pretty much sums up a freeptard wingnut, doesn't it? SELFISH SELFISH SELFISH.

And, BTW, lets hear it for this suburban Sacramento Jiffy Lube which is located in a "red" county, not puting on FAUX! :woohoo:

We need MORE businesses like this!!!!

44. Did you "balance: your post?
I find it strange that "news" has to be somehow balanced. Opinion yes, yes there needs to be some balance, especially when it comes to politics (remember the fairness doctrine). The problem is they really do not wish for "balance", they wish for dominance and the proof of that is their wish to eliminate the "fairness doctrine".

I checked opensecrets.org, and Jiffy Lube execs have contributed $8400 so far to Republican candidate Dean Heller during this election cycle. Money also went to Bush in 2004.

13. This is another little under-the-radar guerrilla action we can take.
I carefully note what's on the TV monitors at my neighborhood bank. It used to be Pox "news." I complained. EVERY TIME I went to the bank, if I saw Pox "news," I'd complain. Only one teller got in my face. Everyone else, including the manager, was receptive and non-judgmental. Soon enough, I walked in there and the TV monitors were on CNN. So I made sure I commented favorably about THAT. I even went over and thanked the manager on duty that morning. She said they changed the channel because there had been complaints. Not sure if all those complaints were strictly mine or not, but thereya go! Complaining DOES get things done. I just would NOT stand there in line and be assaulted by that distorted, dishonest shit. I won't watch it in my home, so why should I have to watch it at my bank - where I am a longtime customer?

I'd suggest anybody who sees a TV tuned to Pox "news" should speak up and complain. Even if it does nothing, or nothing immediate, it's still important to register a complaint. You never know, either. Sometimes yours might be THE ONE complaint that finally tipped the scales and got that accursed network turned off. Don't EVER pass up an opportunity to do this.

If they think we/you don't care, THEY WON'T, EITHER!!!

29. I'm with you!!!
I complain or write a letter of complaint every time. And as i have mentioned before that is why I have boycotted Macy's for 3 years!
Not only did they assault their shoppers ( womens' dept had three screening areas ) w/ F****** during the assault on Baghdad, but w/ those Social Security videos * made afterward!

There were instructions at each monitor that they were to STAY on F**N*** or espn but whenever I went, which was often, FOX was ALWAYS BLARING!

I complained all the way to corporate and when I didn't get a satisfactory response I cut up my Macy's card and sent it to them. Their excuse, btw, was that they were 'informing people'. I asked them why not CNN???

I'm boycotting some local restaurants also.

I went shopping to get AWAY from the invasion. I would move from one area to the next and find another screen blasting away! When I would complain to the Sales Associates their excuse was that Macy's had invested $ in those screens. SO? Then put on sports or travelogues but nooooo the instructions were for FOX News!

I was there one day when Faux news was on, I politely asked to be switched to CNN. I was rudely told by the office manager that this Dentist office supports Faux news because they support the President.

I canceled my appointment & found another Dentist. The reason I gave for the switch was that anyone that supports this President is no better and also has blood on their hands for the support.

I heard him say in passing why he did. He said this president wants to make the USA just like Mexico with his immigration policies, and that's why he decided he can't support The Decider any more.

Regardless of where you stand on this issue, I think it's interesting to note that Junior is losing part of his base on account of what he wants to do on immigration reform.

...my friend moved there about 7 years ago and met his partner. Neither have ever encountered the kind of rabid homophobia you'd expect, and in fact have a great group of friends who're now my friends as well. And they agree with me politically, so there ya go. Pockets of blue in the reddest places.

As for Faux, they had it on one time at my gym in SF!!! To be honest, I actually have it V-chipped at home (my God, CHILDREN might see it!!!) so I haven't seen it except in passing, and one day they had it on in my gym. At first, I didn't know what it was, just that there were a bunch of waxy, scary looking white men with vacuus eyes pontificating. It freaked me out, made me want to hide under my bed like when I first saw Boris Karloff. I really don't know how anyone could watch (cue Marlon Brando in Apocolypse Now) "the horror. The horror."

And worse, actually give value and credence to a bunch of Madame Tussaud's talking figures!!!

But yes, Rocklin seems to be a real Republican stronghold. I couldn't believe how many Bush/Cheney signs there were in that area during the elections. :puke:

When we first moved here in 2004, I saw lots of pro-Bush bumper sticker. However, you see fewer and fewer of them now. Lots of people have scratched them off their cars. Anyone with some brain left would find it utterly embarrassing to drive around now with a pro-Bush sticker.

34. I am little more aggressive than that, especially in a waiting room
of sorts.

The View was on in this one waiting room and turned up rather loudly and completely obnoxious as usual. There was me and another lady in the room waiting on our spouses. She was reading book and I was doing homework, and I asked, "Would it bother you if I turned off the TV?", she replied, "Not at all!". So off with the television.

Another time it was Fox news, again very loud. There was a group of people all reading, "Excuse me everyone, would anybody object to me turning down the TV?', and everyone said, nodded in agreement or motion with a hand gesture to go ahead to do so.

A lot of times just saying something can improve the situation.

by bullying the cashier with, "I am going someplace else".

I was just most saying, most of the time you can get what you want by speaking-up and being polite and of course, reasonable. Not many want to sit around and listen to people being shrill, argumentative and just plain rude, not to mention out on the fringe and ignorant. This is the kind of entertainment you will find Fox, CNN, and MSNBC also daytime talk shows and on the latest retired "here comes the" judge show. Only a small amount of the population find this tripe worthwhile. This is why with eighty channels of crap, TV is losing viewership, people have better things to do with their time.

By the way, that lady did not get her way, you did!

40. No one should underestimate the significance of FOX, as much as we hate it
Where I live, very RED, shrub worshipping North Texas, for many folks here Fox News is like some kind of pacifier, pablum, security blanket all rolled into one. It's as if their whole shrub worshipping reality would crumble and fly apart if this umbilical cord to Rove were disconnected even briefly. Especially since the whole fabric of the thing is pretty tenuous these days, even WITH Faux.

The Repubs and Ailes knew what they were doing when they set up FAUX. Limbaugh was a stroke of luck, a bolt out of the blue for these people, he filled a "need" that angry white wingnuts didn't know they had, and it took a while for even the Repub power machine to appreciate the Limbaugh phenomenon for what it was.

They have an extremely valuable asset in Fox in a lot of ways. A 24/7 repository of Republican propaganda that their true believers can turn to at all times and be shielded from any information critical to their heroes. Plus it's a "safe haven" that embattled Republicans like DeLay, Cheney, Shrub can appear on any time they need a friendly interview. And it's an automatic launching point for any new talking points from Rove or whoever will run their mess after he's passed on.

Ralphs markets (here in Los Angeles) were playing Fox Radio, I know a lot of people complained, including me. They went back to their own in-house audio feed.

69. The only thing that should scare the hell out of you about repugs
is their twisted thinking.

You can engage a repuke in a civil manner and not worry about getting attacked.

Try it! You'll quickly gain confidence! :bounce:

72. They're typical bullies. Call 'em on it, and they fold like a paper fan.
The only way to beat a bully is to confront him/her and shove it back in his/her face. Besides, most bullies aren't even accustomed to being confronted. They're COUNTING on you to be scared of their "illustrious reputations" so they don't have to break a sweat proving their worth. When you make them prove it, you and the bullies will all realize quickly that they can't.

You are certainly right about that and I should probably try since I am moving from a super-blue college town 95% of which voted for Kerry in 2004, to a super red part of TN :scared:

I am sure I will be meeting a lot more Repub.s now :(.

81. Hey, we all do what we can. You know there are MANY ways to
confront these people - overtly AND covertly.

Just today, I leafleted another car. Saw an SUV with a "w04" sticker on it, and left one of my yellow flyers that invite all loyal Americans who support bush and his war to ENLIST!

I've heard of all kinds of "other stuff" you can do - from leaving flyers or set-the-record-straight informationals with the magazines and newspapers people can pick up to read at their neighborhood Starbucks or their doctor's/dentist's office, post-its saying "LIES" inside books by coultergeist and o'leilly (where some intrepid souls even go to book stores and place copies of liberal or progressive books in front of those of the bad guys). Another DUer here reported placing KoolAid stickers next to "w04" and "bush/cheney" stickers on people's back bumpers. It began here quite awhile ago with some DUers recommending a "Question w" campaign in which you write "Question w" or "?w" on dollar bills and sending 'em out into circulation. There are MANY ways to fight the bad guys that don't have to involve direct face-to-face combat. Those who service the tanks and jeeps and cook the chow are part of the war effort every bit as much as those in the trenches and at the front.

I have found, though, that having spent a whole lotta time here on DU, I have learned such a wealth of information that can debunk arguments - as I could never have imagined! I'm so much smarter on the issues since reading in here - what with the opinions, the research, the links, the perspectives, the backgrounders, the analysis, you name it. I am far better armed to argue back because of this place and the people posting here than I ever was beforehand, so it has increased my confidence.

Dear friend and fellow American:

I know how much you support President Bush and the war effort in Iraq. But I noticed that you haven’t signed up to fight yet. It might be because you are too busy, or maybe you just didn’t know how easy it is to join! I know you probably feel guilty about sending other young men and women off to die in your place, so I am sure you’ll take this opportunity to do the right thing:

Sign up for a tour or two in Iraq today!

You will enable some poor soldier who’s stuck there, exhausted, scared, isolated, frustrated, thirsty, poorly supplied, insufficiently armored, under constant threat, lied to about why he’s there and when he’s going to be released, and yearning to come home – to do just that: come home!

What could possibly be more patriotic?

What better way could there be to prove your devotion to President Bush?

“…And I’d gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land. God bless the U.S.A.”

Below are the links you can use to sign up to join any branch of the armed forces!

I take no credit for this one. I found it on the internet and merely added one paragraph in the middle. I'm sorry I don't have the source of this in order to give proper credit - and it's been awhile since I first found it. I printed about 200 of these on yellow paper (chickenhawk color, dontcha know?) and I do place them on the windshields of cars that sport pro-bush bumper stickers. There was one big-ass pickup truck parked in the neighborhood with a whole lot of these, plus the usual nauseating "Freedom ISN'T Free" and "Support Our Troops" and yellow ribbons and stuff, plus the pro-bush ones. I just left a note on the windshielf of that one - 'cause it just made me furious: "Is your yellow ribbon buying them MORE BODY ARMOR???????"

I do NOT let this shit go unanswered or unchallenged. If they're gonna put that stuff out there in my face and pollute my view, I feel obliged to respond. Once, in fact, I actually drove one offending car out of the neighborhood. I saw one parked, featuring lots of offending bumper stickers. I left a leaflet on it. A few days later, I saw it again, parked around the corner. I left another leaflet on it. I have not seen that car again since. Yes, they have a right to put any bumper stickers on their cars that they want. But if it's in public, I have a corresponding right to react (as long as I'm not doing violence or vandalism) and to make sure theirs is NOT the last word.

That's what I do. Now, mind you, I've had bumper stickers on my car that are anti-war, pro-Howard Dean, and one that says "bush KNEW." What's been done to me (besides getting flipped off and given menacing looks from some drivers), I've had my car keyed and my tires slashed. I think leaving a leaflet is a lot more reasonable. Besides, I feel as though it sort of vindicates me. After all, just consider for a moment the "leader" whose followers do THAT shit. It says a lot about said "leader" who has followers doing such violence and vandalism and other anti-social behavior. They deserve one another.

68. I went to a car wash once and when I entered the place
there were three tvs and all were set to Faux News. I didn't say anything, after seeing that I decided I will never give this place my business anymore. I didn't bother to ask them to change it every now and then because they also had a lot of religious/biblical leaflets around (not that I'm saying there is anything wrong with that), they were probably a lost cause.

86. It was the Tucker Carlson show, which made it more odd considering
he's a wingnut -- or at least leans right. (I hear he's chilled out a little)

I have no idea what was on FOX at the time, but that's what she wanted to watch.
