I know how we feel, but what about the masses?
How do most voters - the ones who wave flags, the ones who proclaim that they are "proud to be Americans," the ones who get misty eyes at the sound of the national Anthem - feel about torturing the terrorist who "hate us because we are Americans?"

Don't flame me. We know that many still believe in the Iraqi connection to 9/11, most believe in whatever their pastors tell them on Sundays... what do they think?

And... let's be honest. The upcoming elections played a role. If we will look at every single YES vote by a Democrat we will find that this is going to be an import at part of their chances for re-election. Perhaps such an analysis is already on DU and I will appreciate a link.

Similarly, there is no doubt in my mind that some Democrats who voted NO did so knowing that they would lose, anyway, but they could still claim the moral high ground. Cannot point to anyone in particular... just the nature of politics.

1. The Masses Are Morons
I won't get all pessimistic, but my subject says it all. I'm scared. Not because of DUers being optimistic. Not because there are turncoat Dems. Not even completely because of the facist leaders.

But because the U.S. MASSES ARE MORONS. That's what scares the SHIT out of me.

Can someone convince me otherwise?

4. All masses are morons.
Individuals, however, have hearts, minds, souls, opinions.

Maybe we'll have more luck if we stop referring to our fellow Americans as "masses" with obvious contempt.

5. The masses are the ones that accept whatever they are told,
they will only watch only Faux or to the 700 Club, they will only listen to Limbaugh and "Orally" (as Olbermann calls him) and will only read the fliers distributed by Rove.

While we do not trust the MSM, if they will bother to read it, if they will watch the regular non-cable network news, they will at least know that our country is not homogeneous, that there are a variety of opinions. If, after all that, they still believe in the American flag and trust god - fine. But at least they've stopped to think.

It is amazing that a country founded on the will of people to change their lives, not to accept what was there in the "old country", has morphed into a herd mentality.

2. They either don't know about it, or approve of it.
They think that terrorist killers are being tortured, which is OK.

They don't get the part about having a trial to see if the accused is actually guilty.

Boy, I'm gonna miss the Magna Carta!

3. Every time they demonstrate such weakness, they lose votes.

How can Americans trust them to fight terrorists if they won't stand up to Bush?

If we want to win more elections, we must push the so-called Democratic "opposition" to stand on princple and demonstrate strength.

As Clinton has said, Americans will pick strong and wrong over weak and right every time. (And I add "strong and right is unbeatable")

The BIGGEST problem the Democatic Party has is their image as wimps. The would gain 5% of the white male vote overnight if they stood up, accused Bush and Cheney of their crimes and demanded impeachment. It is personal attack and demands for punishment that resonate with these folks.

Fortunately, in this case, standing up and accusing is not just the morally right thing to do, it is a political winner.
