Religious Right Strangely Silent About Foley
If there's one thing you have to concede to America's Religious Right, it's that these folks have an amazing media and public relations network and can issue press releases, get on television and radio and, when they really want to, mobilize their lemming-like flock faster than Jack Abramoff can bribe a Republican Congressman.

And yet here we sit, four days after it was revealed that Republican Congressman Mark Foley was using the Internet to go after teenaged boys, and all you can hear from our own little version of the Taliban is dead quiet and crickets chirping.

Odd, isn’t it? The same people who can move their followers to boycott any company that believes gay people even have the right to exist, can't muster much outrage over one of their own preying on young boys and, more importantly, the Republican leadership in the House of Representatives ignoring it to save their political hides.

With the news out since Friday, James Dobson's Focus on the Family (FOF) still doesn’t say a word about it on their web site. In fact, if you go there right now and do a search on "Mark Foley," the closest thing you'll find citing Foley is a statement from March 2006 entitled More Funding Needed to Combat Child Porn.

They quote Foley in that piece as expressing concern that children will continue to be victimized if Congress does not act more proactively against child predators.

"We are still not funding it enough," they quote Foley as saying. "This is one of the most pervasive, dangerous elements in our society."

You just can't make this stuff up.

Meanwhile, the FOF site found plenty of time in their CitizenLink News Center to do 49 "news" stories in September covering a whole bunch of stuff including the presidential line-item veto, the Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act and rapidly urging members to "thank Gov. Schwarzenegger" for vetoing two pieces of California legislation "aimed at advancing the homosexual agenda" but that, to sane people, were really just simple antidiscrimination bills.

2. All here should understand
These sleazy monsters are only interested in their flock, and how much money they can extract from them.

3. Some may be busy trying to hire hackers and geeks
to cover any tracks they may have left.

You are right, they have their own TV networks besides the social/cultural networks to communicate with. Odd that we hear nada. Guess when the news hits one of their puppets in D.C. they just want to silence their part of the echo chamber.

And some of that legislation the GOP pushed through to 'protect the children on the internet' actually requires more filters and restrictions on what sites can be accessed from computers for public use in rural libraries. Not just chat rooms where kids and predators can meet, but discussion boards and such, you know the places where voters and truth can meet.

RW censorship and more control over info in the heartland to protect their base under the guise of protecting children, while the GOP stands silent as their own preys on those youngsters.

Yep, mighty quiet from the RW churches all the sudden.

4. The RRR can't bullshit their way out of this mess to their followers.
They have no choice but to keep quiet.

They can't take the risk of exposing themselves.

8. I hear RW talk was getting slammed on this,
when it comes to children, people have no humor over this, Rush Limbaugh trying to tie Clinton and Barney Frank, went over like a lead balloon. As for the move to use Gerry Studds(and let's not forget Republican Phillip Crane and his female page in the 80's), the page system was reformed or so they say, but as the point was made on Scarborough Country, the GOP came into power on a high horse claiming moral supeiority and family values. The Christian right has painted themselves into a corner hitching themselves to the GOP. Go to bed with dogs wake up with fleas.

7. URP ALERT!! URP ALERT!!
http://electioncentral.tpmcafe.com/blog/electioncentral/2006/oct/02/dobson_statement_on_foleygate_no_mention_of_house_gopleadership

"This is not a time to be talking about politics, but about the well-being of those boys who appear to have been victimized by Rep. Foley. If he is indeed guilty of what he is accused of, it is right that he resigned and that authorities are looking into whether criminal charges are warranted.

"This is yet another sad example of our society's oversexualization, especially as it affects the Internet, and the damage it does to all who get caught in its grasp."

There's more from our favorite hypocrite at the link if your stomach can stand it at this hour.
