Hastert is one in a long line of corrupt GOP Speakers
Remember how Hastert came to be the Speaker of the House!

Newt Gingrich came to power in 1994 and was oddly quiet durig much of the Clinton impeachment, letting more vicious dogs do the party's bidding.

Then in 1998, before leaving his second wife to marry his third wife, a congressional staffer, he resigned the Speaker post to avoid the obvious comparison to Clinton.

Following the adulterous Gingrich, Bob Livingston was elected by the "Holier then Thou" Caucus known as the GOP, as the Speaker of the House. Only months later Livingston had to resign as he was found to have been sexually active with prostitutes that were provided to him by Defense contractors to whom he had awarded gov't contracts.

Hastert was chosen as the Speaker largely because he was bland and seemed to have no skeletons as well as the fact that the powers in the Shadows- DeLay and Bohnier felt he could be easily manipulated. They were right.

Turns out the Foley problem had been turned over to the Justice Dept. a while ago, just before Hastert surprised everyone by demanding that the FBI not be allowed to search COngressional Offices.

Makes one wonder how squeaky clean Hastert will turn out to be at the end of all of this.
