Really dumb question.. Who did Hastert replace?
And please do not poke fun at me, for I am somewhat old and forgetful.

But we have been wondering about this for a couple of days.

Thanks for any response(s).

9. Technically I believe it was Newtie.
I don't think Bob Livingston ever actually took the Speakership. Gingrich had stepped down when his affair was exposed. Livingston was poised to take the chair when HIS sex life was exposed. DeLay wanted the position, but knew he couldn't get it, so he took majority leader, and pushed his deputy whip, Hastert, into the Speakership.

17. Newt had to step down...
because of the fuss he'd made shutting down the government. His affair was made public later. Livingston was running for the Speaker's job but got derailed by Larry Flynt, who'd discovered his affairs but didn't tell as much as he knew. Livingston, although he claimed not to have slept with an intern, had slept with a lobbyist and a judge from his state as well as an intern. After that, Delay picked Hastert mainly because he was more interested in food than in sex.

4. No, Gignrich had to resign and was going to be ...
replaced by anoth guy (can't remember his name) during the impeachment prelim hearings but it came out that he had been having a long affair so he resigned in discrace. Hastert then got the nod.

11. That's what I thought, but I thought Hastert came with this admin.
I still think there is a missing link.

Did Livingston fade over into this admin?

8. Gingrich
I'm not sure of Livingston actually became Speaker, and Gingrich was Speaker before then.

Also, DeLay was the House Majority Leader, followed by Boehner (who swears it's not pronounced like it's spelled! ;-) _

12. Gingrich more like a sexual abuser rather than a sexual molester
...he has that S&M/dominatrix look to him

15. I have always respected Mr Gingrich, so just cool it.
I really appreciate radically unique people.

I mean, how many guys do you know who are having an affair and serving their wife divorce papers in her hospital room while she is being treated for cancer?

Name me just one.

I dare you.

16. It was Newt. Livingston never took the post offered him.
Here's a listing of every one of them, from Muhlenberg (1789-1791) to HasTurds (1999-present): Speakers of the House - from infoplease

That is exactly what I wanted to see.

Facts.

Thank you so much, H2S.

20. According to Flynt, Livingston liked to...
get into the S/M thing with the dominant partner wearing leathers and whipping him. Livingston's wife objected strenuously to his attempting to take over the speaker's position.

Repugnants don't know what to do with sex. Ah well, neither did Cotton Mather.
