I have heard from Thom Hartman as well as several others that the economy is set to fall to the levels of the great deppression sometime in DEC/Jan.....so my question is....could the PUGS be wanting defeat so they can use a poor economy against the DEMs in 2008????

Yassee, here's the thing. They ain't all they're cracked up to be. They had a few good years with effective dirty tricks (including rigged voting machines), but like every Republican administration ever ..... they over reach.

The left is not what you see here on DU. We tend to get hysterical about every little thing and, well, we've pretty much scared the shit out of ourselves. Some for very good reasons. Some for not such good reasons (like Karl Rove's omnipotence).

Re Conrad Burns: Not by device, his behavior. He really is that oblivious.
He had just had some well heeled rancher ragging on him that the fire crew bosses weren't doing things the way the rancher wanted them done. Burns is so anxious about this election that he just jumps when anybody snaps their fingers.

I totally doubt they want defeat. If the economy cracks apart in Dec/Jan people will blame the GOP, the DEMS won't be in charge until Jan. 8th and even then it'll be all to easy to say hey we just got here.

The GOP wants to stay in power, THEY WANT THE ECONOMY TO CRACK UP TO PUSH MORE TAX CUTS, CHOP UP SOCIAL SECURITY, AND THEN WHEN THE ECONOMY IS BACK ON THE UPSWING IN 2008 TAKE CREDIT FOR IT. REST ASSURED IF WE TAKE OVER IN 2007 WE'LL BE BLAMED FOR EVERYTHING, GLOBAL WARMING, ECONOMIC COLLAPSE, CHILD PORN, ETC.
