1. absolutely - its the operative spin
Edited on Wed Oct-04-06 05:40 AM by onenote
My wife spoke last night to her dad, who is a faithful FoxNews watcher and Rush Limbaugh repub, and when she asked him about the Foley situation, the first thing out of his mouth was that the Democrats timed this for maximum politcal impact and to make sure that it came out after it was too late to replace Foley on the ballot. My wife pointed out that the repubs didn't even tell the Democrats about it when they learned about it and that they didn't do anything themselves. There were a lot of other points she could've made as well, of course, such as the fact that even if one views CREW as a "Democratic" (as opposed to repub) organization, they didn't "sit" on the info -- they took it to the FBI in July. If they had simultaneously announced it then, they would've been condemned for undermining the investigation, blah blah blah. In short, there is absolutely no evidence that any Democrat or any liberal organization was anything other than completely above board in their handling of this -- something the repubs can't even come close to claiming.

2. (Playing devil's advocate) It is a good use of spin
Totally dodges the issue that Foley is clearly a mess and the GOP knew it.

And its typical of the GOP play: blame someone else for your own sins before you get pinned on them.

4. They were out-Roved!
They had plenty of time back in May to get this out of the way, but chose to supress the information. So, it's their own dishonesty that did them in. You play with fire, you get burned.

3. Didn't ABC say their sources were Republican in nature?
I guess that was missed by everybody to the right of center?

5. Dems forced Foley
into pedophilia and into being gay, I'm sure. I had no idea how powerful we are? Do we use magic wands? Who can I turn into a pedophile and make gay today?

8. Hmmm... lemme think on that...

How about any of the CWA, and their ilk? Which one said that little boys should shower with their fathers so they can 'see and feel' the full weight of a man's penis in a book about raising children? Got that one from Sam Seeder last year. Who was that? Robertson? Dobson? I can't remember they all blur into one self-hating closeted monster from where I sit. That guy doesn't need a magic pedophile wand to make him gay and want little boys, he's already there. The sicko.

(on edit: fixed mispelling of Dobson's name... confused him with Lou Dobbs -- go figure)

6. It's the most desperate, grasping nonsense..
... bullshit I've ever heard, even from a Republican. It's now a crime to sit on politically damaging information until an opportune time? It's more of a crime than Hastert and Reynolds, who were warned and whose responsibility it was to deal with it?

And lastly, the folks who BROKE THE STORY have already said that their sources were Republican.

So, in typical Republican fashion, we get a lie, that wouldn't be wrong if it were true, trying to be spun as a dirty trick by people who do dirty tricks on a daily basis.

This is cruder than the dumbest fiction.

Hypocrite, thy name is Republican.

7. Of course - the "we didn't want to look like gay bashers" line didn't work
So they had to move on to the next one.
