DU and nickshepDEM make the morning news - Baltimore Sun.
Doing Double Duty:

A sharp-eyed Dem out there recognized an older African-American woman in several TV ads for Gov. Robert Ehrlich - from a Michael Steele spot. (It's a Web-only ad on youtube.com, from Steele's announcement speech.)

"I could be on to something big here or something really, really small," writes somebody who goes by nickshepDEM on democraticunderground.com. The writer wonders if the woman, who criticizes Martin O'Malley on schools in one spot, is from Baltimore. "If she's not from the City, she has no credibility," he writes.

Either way, he continues, "I still find it kind of funny that Ehrlich and Steele have such little support in the African American community that they are forced to pass around this little old lady for photo ops and TV spots."

Ehrlich spokeswoman Shareese DeLeaver said the woman "is both an Ehrlich and Steele supporter." She declined to identify the woman by name, but said she believes she lives in Prince George's. Not that there's anything wrong with that, DeLeaver said.

"Maryland voters have an interest in all jurisdictions, whether they reside in that particular jurisdiction or not," she said.

1. Probably Steele's mom...

as I recall Michael Steele is the former brother-in-law or cousin-in-law or some such to Mike Tyson. Related to Tyson's former wife Monica(?), who was obviously a total gold digger.

16. Keith Olbermann is related to Mike Tyson by marriage.
Edited on Wed Oct-04-06 10:36 AM by Clark2008
Seriously...

Olbermann is related to Mike Tyson by marriage (Olbermann’s father’s brother married the niece of Tyson’s adoptive father, making Olbermann and Tyson first step-cousins in-law once removed).

8. I disagree with you

I think that since O'Malley is seeking a higher office than that of Mayor of Baltimore people should be able to analyze the success of the city's school as evidence to his competency, therefore the statement "Maryland voters have an interest in all jurisdictions, whether they reside in that particular jurisdiction or not," is valid.

With that being said, I think that O'Malley's school record should be compared to that of his predecessor, that should put an end to this discussion. Lets talk records, lets not give into the who is what argument and guide the discussion to policy and record.

I may live in Texas, but my boyfriend's brother is on O'Malley's staff and I can assure you that O'Malley and his people are truly great public servants that should be entrusted with the state of Maryland.

11. I didn't talk about that
Though I alluded to that to his parents, they agree... we were surrounded by Republicans family members so I could only allude to safe subjects like the election of his boss, not the possibility that he could lose due to dirty tricks. (I'm sure it is a concern though)

A couple of months ago he was really pissed about the pathetic cut in Homeland Security funds to the city.

19. Thanks.
Homeland Security is part of the Big Sham, of course.

Couple of links for you, if you like:
It all seemed too preposterous.

Sure, friends and relatives predicted that the case would eventually land in their laps, but that was ignorant, naïve talk — typical of people without sophisticated legal backgrounds.

A majority of the justices were conservatives, but they weren't partisan; mindful of the Court's fragile authority, the justices had always steered clear of messy political spats.

Moreover, the very jurists who'd normally side with Bush were the ones most solicitous of states' rights, most deferential to state courts, most devoted to the Constitution's "original intent" — and the Founding Fathers had specifically provided that the Congress, not the judiciary, would resolve close elections.

To top it off, the Court rarely took cases before they were ripe, and the political process in Florida was still unfolding.

"It was just inconceivable to us that the Court would want to lose its credibility in such a patently political way," one of the clerks recalls. "That would be the end of the Court."

Vanity Fair: The Path to Florida

In the summer of 2003, Representative Peter King (R., N.Y.) was interviewed by Alexandra Pelosi at a barbecue on the White House lawn for her HBO documentary Diary of a Political Tourist. “It’s already over. The election’s over. We won,” King exulted more than a year before the election. When asked by Pelosi—the daughter of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi—how he knew that Bush would win, he answered, “It’s all over but the counting. And we’ll take care of the counting.”

Mark Crispin Miller: None Dare Call It Stolen

Take care. Thank your boyfriend for working in the political process, too, please.

18. So as compared to his predecessor, how does Ehrlich stand?
I think people should really concentrate on policy and records... keeping in mind that Baltimore should be viewed on its improvement, not its statistics...
