World Can't Wait -- any reports from today's protests?
Did anyone here attend? What did you see?

Has anyone seen TV coverage of it? Were there big rallies that should have been on TV?

I ask the above in earnest, hoping that some positive impact was made, though I have been highly critical of WCW for its anti-Democratic Party stance.

6. Boston was small; it was great though ...

lots of excellent speakers ... focus on election fraud, Guantanamo, 9/11, women's rights, and most importantly, the endless crimes of the bush administration ...

i ran into Grace Ross who is the Green Party candidate for Governor in Massachusetts ... i spoke to her at some length ... she's an impressive character and yet VERY down to earth ... i also met some very friendly and well-informed people who told me they are regular DU lurkers but have never posted here ... i hope they do ...

and i had some fascinating conversations with a guy from Veterans for Peace ... of course, not everyone was a demonstration supporter ... one guy i spoke to for a while was a bush supporter and another guy i spoke to was absolutely certain that the country is all messed up because of the Jews ... there sure are some lunatics out there in the streets ...

we need to do much more of this though ... in fact, i think the country would be far better off if they (all of them), held regular rallies to promote their beliefs and interact with citizens ... why shouldn't Democrats lead a march against poverty or corruption or the loss of our Constitutional liberties??? and it's not just the politicians ... if the American people don't get far more involved in fighting back to safeguard their democracy, what hope if any is there of preserving or restoring it???

street demonstrations are one of many methods for citizens to get involved ... they obviously cannot solve all our problems but i think we've all become far too isolated from one another and most have little or no awareness of how or why they need to get involved ... pulling a lever ever 2 or 4 years is just not enough ... street activism has an important role to play ...

i'm hoping to write-up some notes I took about the event in greater detail tomorrow ...

7. I went to Portland Maine protest..
only a handful showed up for the initial protest, poor location and length of time, but a decent turnout (for Portland) at the downtown rally at 5 pm, over 100 pp, very enthusiastic with signs, placards, drums and chants. Lots of honking support from passing motorists as well as a large dog who leaned out the passenger window and barked at us as he passed lol!. We had a few speakers including an independent candidate for congress taking advantage of the crowd, and a typical lefty cross-section of political activists, college students, progressive families with kids, workers, people who talk to themselves, a cross-dressing guitarist, and a person in a death suit ie skull mask with sickle and a sign that said "re-elect Republicans, i'm still hungry"

I just read your link to the Voice article about the root of the group and upset that they weren't upfront about their links to the RCP. Did they have a hidden agenda? Still glad I went, but would have liked to know who I was representing trying to get friends and family to go!

There was a cameraman from a local network TV station (channel 8) who took crowd shots and did an interview of the organizer. Wonder if it will be aired and how they will characterize it?

9. Went to the LA rally. Probably a few thousand there. My friend
wasn't able to walk much so we didn't make it to the Federal Building. The rally is probably still going on. Sorry, I don't have pics nor have I tried to find any mention of it on the local news (the news coverage is always disappointing.)I almost chickened out because of the latest assault on our rights, but decided to just tone down my sign and go anyway. I asked in a couple of posts whether any LA DUers were going, but didn't get any responses from locals. Haven't found any reports on the inet either, BTW.

11. Seattle....
I waited all day with the TV on the NW channel to see if I would hear anything...nothing was said...finally had to turn it to a local channel...and heard that there were about 2,000 people...(for Seattle, that seems small)...and there were problems...apparently an anarchist? group from Olympia arrived on the scene, (I don't know why they would have gone to Seattle, as there was a protest in Olympia also) and there were people arrested...a man walking through the area with a rifle was arrested...it is still going on...they were putting more police on the streets this evening...and said it could snarl traffic...mostly peaceful...
They really didn't cover it until about 6 this evening I saw nothing about it during the day...
