Jimmy Breslin

February 5, 2004

"I liked Kerry when he put on his hockey player suit," Alice Krakauer said at lunch yesterday. She is the famed political campaign worker. Over all the years in political campaigns, she has worked for candidates on the grounds of sexual attraction only.

"Kerry is pure male. I like the way he moved in his hockey player suit. All of a sudden he wasn't in his orator mode. You're eating before me. He was an athlete. His moves were less rehearsed. He could get me going. I want you to be literal. If I'm going to talk with an edge, don't you run over the cliff with what I say. I like the way Kerry touches his wife. She is juice and poetry. If she likes him, he must have personality that we don't know about."

She thought for a moment. "Kerry can afford to smile. He's got enough masculinity." She sees Kerry as a warrior who takes on the terrorists and the war. This was Kerry's major asset, she said, a warrior radiating sex as he stands guard over his country.

Noone has a better grasp on real people than Breslin. He knows who to talk to and where to find the real story.

2. Creepy.
"...a warrior radiating sex as he stands guard over his country."

I don't know whether to laugh or puke.

4. Suggest you read entire article--Clinton is her favorite, of course, and
she is one hell of a campaign worker. Any campaign would be lucky to have her working on their behalf.

5. "she has worked for candidates on the grounds of sexual attraction only"
you'd be surprised how many people vote based on appearance, sex appeal, etc. . . . unfortunate, but true . . .

12. Breslin's just highlighting the everyman street feel, as always.
That's how he has written for decades.

6. Uh...
Kerry as a warrior radiating sex.

I hope this isn't true, because that means that I've been confusing sex with sleep and doing far too much of one over the other for my health.

;)

Seriously, Kerry used to be pretty hunky but that was quite a while ago. And the man doesn't exactly make my spine or anything else tingle. But it's certainly better than inducing nausea, like Bush.

7. Obviously, you have not met John Kerry.
Neither have I, but my daughter has at UCLA and described him as very charismatic as well as articulate and persuasive.

8. Obviously
You mistake your daughter's personal impressions with a general consensus.

And, unless Kerry plans to personally meet and charm the pants off every single voter, what does her first hand experience mean anyway?

It's about what the 99% of the voters are seeing on TV.

I think intellectually, Kerry would be very interesting and he's got that tall, dark thing going. But I think Clark is cuter and would be a lot more fun.

10. Hey, what do I know?
A lot of non-partisan women think Bush is "cute". *gag*

A lot of my fellow female Clark supporters think Clark is quite sexy. I have no idea what Jane Democrat thinks of him. Nor would I presume.

13. Security moms will eat Kerry up.
As well as other wanting a strong independent leader.

Kerry does have stregnth that Democrats are usually ridiculed for lacking. He is no Dukakis for sure.
