Colorado D-05 Fawcett/Lamborn Debate
Edited on Fri Oct-06-06 05:05 PM by Psst_Im_Not_Here
And believe it or not, The Gazette wasn't overly biased. Although the account of it was much better in the comments section of the article. Check it out:

The Gazette:Fawcett and Lamborn Square Off

Snippet:

CAÑON CITY - The first debate between Jay Fawcett and Doug Lamborn resembled a bare-knuckle brawl, with both men attacking each other and taking on audience members.

Fawcett, a Democrat needing an upset to capture the open 5th Congressional District seat, questioned almost all of Lamborn’s answers and asserted that as an Air Force combat veteran, he knows what the military and veterans need.

Lamborn stuck largely to the platform he used to win a six-way Republican primary to succeed retiring GOP Rep. Joel Hefley. The state senator promised never to vote for a tax hike and defended traditional family values and the handling of the Iraq war.

Sparks flew from the opening statements, when Fawcett took issue with a Lamborn news release accusing him of taking money from far leftwing contributors. The release highlighted an Internet blogger and Fawcett backer who said he felt no sadness in 2004 when bodies of security contractors were dragged through the streets of Fallujah.

Fawcett asked Lamborn if he supported mercenaries fighting the war rather than soldiers. Lamborn disputed his use of the term “mercenaries” while Fawcett continued pressing him to answer the question until a moderator stepped in.

“The great part of an election like this is, I don’t think you can confuse Doug and I,” Fawcett said later.

I may even register and do a little commenting myself, care to join me DU?

1. "Doug and me"
Not "Doug and I." Aargh!

Jeez, I expect Republicans to mangle the language, but not Democrats. Or I guess I should say that I simply sneer and accept it when Republican candidates can't speak English properly, but I keep hoping for better from Democrats.

I refuse to vote for him! But I would if I lived in his district.

2. Yeah
I know what you mean. My mother corrected our grammar all our lives and she was an immigrant from Germany! She always said, "If I had to learn this godforsaken language then you will too!" But the truth is, most people won't notice it, especially here. Normally, I wouldn't vote for a guy like Fawcett. He's too moderate for me. However, here in the Springs, the alternative is NOT an option. Fawcett is poised for an upset here and personally, I'll do what I can to see that happen. Just IMAGINE! A Dem representative from CO-05....it's unheard of!

5. Given the district
He's probably the best you can hope for.

I look forward to the popping sound of veins bursting on fundie foreheads, all the way up here in Denver.

4. The comments from Ernie Zipperat are hillarious:
"Fawcett is a Democrat! What else do you need to know to vote for Lamborn?"
-OK, this guy sounds like a typical CS Republican blowhard, and someone even echoes his opinion

"All I'm saying is that Lamborn is a Republican, the vast majority of Republicans are vile, self-centered, power-mongering psycophants, just like me, therefore I'm voting for Lamborn. By the way, I like little boys."
-Nevermind about my previous assumption

"See how desperate Democrats are when they even stoup so low as to impersonate me. Look at the entry a dozen above mine, Democratic Morons have to stoup so low."
-OMG, This is HUGH!!!1!!111

"Zen- You know nothing about me, except that i don't know how to spell "stoop". All I'm saying is that if a Democrat wants to impersonate me, all they have to do is strip off all their clothes and have sex with goats in the median of Nevada Avenue. After all, when all the little boys are gone, we still have goats. I love 'em both. Vote Lamborn."

"OK, he's doing it again, someone out there trying to make me look stupid. I don't need your help, you neo-dem, i can look plenty stupid all on my own. This is the same kind of smeer job those neo-dems are doing on Foley, who is basically a decent guy and was a good congresman, so what if he likes underage boys. But you ask one page to get nasty and you get labeled a pedofile. That's totally unfair. He should have never resigned, because he was just smeered. Go Bush, Go Foley, Go Hastert, GO LAMBORN!"
-Long live snark.

6. I know!
He's a complete lunatic. But, alas, we have more than the national average of lunatics here.
