Response to the Conservatives' "Democrats are hypocrites" line Re: Foloey
Edited on Sun Oct-08-06 11:10 AM by the dogfish
I keep seeing the same tired, pathetic and clearly desperate spin on the Foley story on just about every right-wing message board on the web; Conservatives whining about the Democrats being hypocrites because of the outrage towards the Foley drama.

Here's the thing, in my point of view, and so far it's shut up plenty of right-wing morons online.

The Conservatives have run on "family values" for years and they've made it abundantly clear that their version of "family values" is a thinly veiled anti-gay agenda because they've made a killing scapegoating gays to placate the Religious Right. They've consistently demonized the gay community with glee on a regular basis, ruining lives and gay families, at every available opportunity to garner money, power, and votes.

Now, suddenly, when it's revealed that Conservatives' "family values" is nothing but a hollow marketing ploy, they're trying to spin this to say Democrats are hypocrites for their outrage.

Bullshit!

They can't have it both ways!

They've dug this grave for themselves and they deserve it.

(On edit: Woops on the typo in the headline...)

3. Stressing the fact that only the Conservatives
have beaten everyone over the head with their "superior" "moral values" makes them fair game has shut them up so far.

If they're going to claim to be morally superior to garner votes and money then they should expect to be held to that standard. They should expect to be scrutinized and expect to experience the consequences of being exposed to be a fraud.

One of the more desperate Conservatives on a message board said that what I must be saying, in essence was that the Democrats have NO values and shouldn't be held to any standards at all.

I responded by saying, "No, what I'm saying is simply what I said, which is that if you are a fraud, you should expect consequences. It's called 'personal responsibility'."

4. Or that Dems think that people are human
with imperfections and the occasional moral lapse that happens.

"One of the more desperate Conservatives on a message board said that what I must be saying, in essence was that the Democrats have NO values and shouldn't be held to any standards at all. We've never set ourselves up as arbiters of people's private business and we find it problematic for government to do so as well (like the repukes want to do).

If the repukes want to set themselves up as the moral standards folks then they have set themselves up for the hypocrisy charge when their guys fail to live up to those standards.

And face it, stalking teenagers when you are a 52 year old Congressman is failing pretty badly. If repukes want to somehow minimize this transgression, well then it says a whole lot about how low they will go.

5. Well said,
better than my rambling attempt. I get so pissed off at their hypocricy and good comebacks come to mind but all jumbled up sometimes, because I'm pissed off.

Republican 'moral values' is right up there with the WMD's and the Easter Bunny.
