Democrats ask for Foley records

A Republican leader says the request to Charlie Crist's office is purely political.

Tallahassee Bureau

October 11, 2006

TALLAHASSEE -- The Florida Democratic Party filed a request Tuesday with Attorney General Charlie Crist's office for records concerning former U.S. Rep. Mark Foley, R-Fort Pierce.

Crist, the Republican nominee for governor, served in the state Senate with Foley for two years in the early 1990s. His office is contributing to a state and federal criminal investigation into Foley's behavior with congressional pages.

State Democratic Party Chairwoman Karen Thurman submitted a public-records request seeking information about communications involving Foley, who resigned from Congress this month amid allegations that he sent sexually explicit electronic instant messages and e-mails to underage male pages.

Thurman said the Democratic Party is not alleging that Crist had any previous knowledge of Foley's behavior or would not be willing to disclose any findings of his office's investigators.

"In light of the recent revelations of a cover-up at the highest levels of the Republican Congress, we feel it is pertinent that we make this request," Thurman said.

2. That is great! We won't see these until after the elections, but maybe
...it will wake up the voters in Florida to vote to dump all republicans in November. The Jeb Bush cabal from which Crist and Foley emerged needs to be trampled into the mud and no allow Jeb any political capital for national aspirations.

might come sooner.

5. FL Democratic Party seeking records involving Foley, Crist and Jeb Bush
It's getting more interesting by the hour.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. The Florida Democratic Party is asking for any records the state attorney general's office might have on Mark Foley and his contacts with congressional pages.

The Democrats also are seeking Foley-related communications between the Florida Attorney General Charlie Crist and the office of Florida Governor Jeb Bush, House Speaker Dennis Hastert, other congressmen and the Republican National Committee.

Crist is the Republican candidate for governor.

A spokesman for Florida's Republican Party calls the request "gutter politics" rooted in "baseless accusations."

6. There's a whispering campaign against Crist
claiming he is gay...

It was probably started by his GOP challenger in the primaries (Galagher)...

for instance see the following freeper post:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1694658/posts

"Margaret Hostetter and young Gallagher supporters wave a provocative and revealing sign outside NBC WPTV Channel 5 before 2nd Crist VS Gallagher Debate Monday, August 28th.

Watch the Crist VS Gallagher Debate online at: http://www.wptv.com/ click on middle of page “Decision 2006 Florida Governor Debate.
Share the info that people can view this debate and need to know that:

(1) Crist has NO WIFE – He was only married about 6 months over 25 years ago. Floridians want a First Lady.

(2) Crist has NO KIDS – He is 50 years old and has no children.

(3) Crist has NO HOME – He has NEVER owned a home or condo. He rents a 1 bedroom apartment.

If you are a Crist supporter you may get angry, but people need to know and Crist supporters would be wise to reconsider."

This is probably why they are looking for his communications (if any) with Foley.

7. Why is Crist leading in the polls anyway ??

"Poll shows Crist in lead for Governor's race
TALLAHASSEE, Florida (AP) — According to a poll released today, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jim Davis faces a difficult battle to overcome Republican Charlie Crist.

The poll shows Crist with a solid lead and that few likely voters are wholly undecided.

Crist — the state's attorney general — is backed by 53 percent of likely voters, including leaners. That's compared to 43 percent who say they favored the Democratic congressman from Tampa with three percent undecided."

8. Several reasons:
1) Money,money,money..Crist has several times as much as Davis and has been spending it on advertisements.
2) Davis was a Congressman from the Tampa area and is not as well known as Charlie Crist who holds statewide office as Attorney General.
3) Crist has the obvious backing of Jeb Bush who is still well liked by Florida voters.
