12 Steps to US Political Freedom
12 Steps to US Political Freedom

1 Admit that there is a drunken enraged elephant in the White House.

2 Come to believe in Democracy as a power greater than individuals acting alone.

3 Make a decision to invest in the Democratic process to the best of our ability.

4 Take an honest, yet compassionate look at our nation, as is, and evaluate which
parts are helpful and which will need to be changed to bring US back to the kind of
world leader our Founding Father's legacy of sacrifice demands of US.

5 Embrace Truth and our responsibilties to it, dwell upon truthful thoughts, speak
our Truth to one another and together speak Truth to the powers who obscure it.

6 Brace for the impact of our actions to Take Our Country Back stir up and prepare to
make any changes needed to return US to a solidarity of committment to stand up
for Liberty and Justice for ALL.

7 Humbly ask for help in these endevors, whether it means praying like Romans with
our eyes on fire or simply acknowledging that none of US can accomplish this alone.

8 Make 3 lists. First, people who can be trusted to champion Democracy regardless
of political party dictates. Second, people who have trashed the Constitution and
stripped US of our Civil Liberties. Third, those who must prove to US which list they
will be placed on based on actions.

9 Do 3 things. First, support our champions. Second, impeach or otherwise politically
hold accountable those who have done damage to US. Third, monitor the others and
put the fire under their feet to push them onto the first list whenever possible.

10 Honestly evaluate our daily actions and determine to which list we belong and why.

11 Go within to thoughtfully, soulfully reach our deepest reserves of strength and seek
out what is the right thing for US to do at this time with a faith that the momentum
of all that has gone before will support us in all we do.

12 Having become Democracy in action, rejoice in the process, bring others onto the
path, get out the vote, cast your vote and monitor those counting the votes and
teach others to do the same so Democracy is alive in thought, word and deed for
every successive generation. (short version, lather, rinse, repeat)

3. You know, if * had joined AA
for his drinking problem, our country would not be in the mess we're in.

5. Well, at least some things might be different.
Some people are constitutionally incapable of facing the truth about themselves and will not do everthing it takes to recognize the problem and effect the solution even one little step at a time.

However, I remember saying one night when I was particularly trying to overcome my hatred of the man for what he had done to our country that although I would not piss on him to put him out if he were on fire 10 feet away from me on a public street, if he walked into a 12 Step meeting, I would welcome him with open arms.

It helped me to start to heal from brokeness inside. All the power I gave away to him by hating him came back to me instead.

9. You are a bigger person than probably
most of us on DU. Although I've never had reason to be in a 12-step program, their message is certainly one that all of us can use.

10. Not really, but everyone has their strengths.
For me I had to learn about forgiving people who wronged me due to their disease despite all their words of love to the contrary of their actions.

So in order to move on and be sane I had to cultivate a way to keep these kind of people from taking up space in my brain because it drove me to the edge.

It took me a good year after someone amazed me by saying they had gone through this forgiveness process with Hitler and his atrocities. Not to say that all is forgotten, the lessons learned and the boundries that keep one from trusting so easily one who hasn't earned it are there. But the rage that comes up when I think of Hitler isn't the same as it used to be. I realize that he was manipulated by all the things that made him who he was and he made the choice to misuse his power. One bad man, choosing to lead many followers, each with a share of the blame.

With * it was even more important because I need to have my full capacity and my full serenity around me to confront his constant barrage of foul deeds and be able to effectively do the right thing without the knee jerk responses I felt myself being dragged toward by my anger.

So I worked for another year catching myself whenever I let my power be sucked away by a man who has too much power right now anyway and does not deserve one ounce of mine. I will not let * become a power greater than myself even if he sits his arse in the same chair where Bill got his bj's.

The pRes is a temporary occupant, but WE the People will live on long after he has been eaten by worms and returned to the dirt of the grave.

11. True that and that's why I wrote these for US not him.
I had to find a way to think about taking My Country Back without getting all caught up in petty stuff.

We'll wind up with a country MORE dedicated to preserving freedom if we do this right.

14. It'll get worse even as it's getting better.
As long as we don't give up it'll eventually be ours again. WE outnumber them. We can find ways to keep up the fight forever if need be.

The human spirit is inheritantly indomitable once it has tasted freedom. It may sulk and stew, but eventually the will to self determine will override all else with these bozos in charge.

12. # 1 on my list of Champions -- John Conyers!
Progressive and proud of it, able to wade into the muckraked world of the Legislative House without a backward glance. A man who votes the way a true DEM who is concerned about US in this country should.

A man who has no problem pointing out that the chimperor is stark raving neked. My kinda guy.
