With less than a month left before E-Day, Sen. Rick Santorum's campaign went live with www.RSiteonline.com, an alternative site aimed at the under age 35 voting group with corresponding ads on MTV. The flash site boasts pseudo-news segments featuring two Pennsylvania College Republicans discussing opponent "Bobby Casey Jr's" track record on issues such as attendance and immigration. Shorter versions of the spots will appear as spots on MTV.

It's an interesting strategy to try to close the loop between YouTube and the Boob Tube crowds. Total communication integration results in a sum greater than its parts because it drives more traffic to the Web site. But in terms of actually getting young voters to the polls, it's a tough call for advertising on MTV. Plus the average age of the station's voters is just over 21, and while known for being politically active, the youngins' are completely unreliable at the polls. Nevertheless, it's the first effort to reach the YouTube generation on multiple media fronts.

Yes its a waste of campaign money, but other than that its just plain odd, why pitch to youngsters...for an election, makes no sense... Seems to me its actually an attempt to make simple pitches to his basest base.

That would be a cool interview. The teenager, with baggy-pants, sun-glasses, the hat on backwards, introduces Rick as R-Dawg, and when it comes out he's all, "What up, beyotch? What's the dealy-o with stem cell research?"

I thought it was for the younger kids - before they become those teenagers with their baggy pants and their hats on backwards and their hula hoops and fax machines and I don't know what all... (Said in grumpy old man voice)

Stephen Colbert did a send-up of conservatives trying to appeal to teenagers on his show. It was a skit called, "Stephen Colbert Raps," where he comes out and spouts off a bunch of "cool-sounding" buzz words while trying to help teenagers in the audience with their problems. After every meaningless answer, there would be a lame graphic of a skateboarder rolling across the screen with the soundbite, "AWESOME!"

It amused me.
