Reid Accusation Debunked - Reporter has hard-on for Reid
AP's Reid Story Doesn't Add Up
By Paul Kiel - October 11, 2006, 11:10 PM

Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) "collected a $1.1 million windfall on a Las Vegas land sale even though he hadn't personally owned the property for three years," the AP reports.

Except that's wrong. Reid made a $700,000 profit on the sale, not $1.1 million. Also, the story, by the AP’s John Solomon, makes it sound as if Reid got money for land he didn't own. But that's not the case.

It’s not the first time that Solomon has published a misleading story about Reid. This is the third such story by Solomon over the past six months. Each time, Solomon has hit Reid for taking actions which might create the appearance of ethical impropriety. But because Solomon writes for the most powerful news organization in the land, these very gray-shaded stories pack a wallop. It doesn’t help that on numerous occasions, he has missed or distorted key details – missteps that help blow up his stories.

1. Isn't this just a case of Reid turning his ownership of the land
into an LLC?

Big woop.

Solomon can kiss my you-know-what. On second thought, I don't want him anywhere near that close to me. AP has no credibility anymore anyway, IMHO.

2. Reid story will grow legs because the media whores will think it's

fair play to rake Reid over the coals to balance out the Foley coverage we have gotten 24/7

Plus when you point the finger of "Culture of Corruption" at your opponent, you better be clean as a whistle yourself.

5. Seriously. Does no one get fined for spouting obvious falsities?

So many wingnuts constantly putting out known lies, I don't understand how that is okay with the FCC and such.

6. very clever. and very misleading. and quite unethical
$700K profit + the original $400K = $1.1M.

obviously, the reporter wanted to use an amount in excess of
one million dollars in his lead (which in turn usually puts it
in headlines in newspapers all over the country) to catch the
readers attention.

7. Odd, innit?
Reid, making a land deal wholly above-board and fully reported, gets John Solomon's attention. But Solomon can't seem to put one plus one together (let alone two plus two) to take a look at Bill Frist's self-dealing in his alleged "blind" trust or George Felix Allen's self-dealing in Xybernaut stock options. And if Solomon was just reporting straight news, he wouldn't have to fudge the facts to show that Frist and Allen are using their office for personal gain.

Makes you wonder about that whole "liberal" media thing, doesn't it?
