Oprah on now...Truth in America
This may be the real end of the lie if housewives get on the story!

3. Oprah is talking about the news media
and asking if people think they get the facts and some are saying no. Someone mentioned the fact that Americans don't demand the news and that they are more interested in celebrity than politics.

7. Frank Rich is laying it all out...reason Bush is still in power - MEDIA
built him up and protected him after 9-11 and swallowed everything he said because they were "human" and wanted a strong president.

THAT is what Democrats were up against, folks - they weren't "just" up against the entire power structure in DC, but the entire corpmedia and their protection of Bush, as well.

8. Frank Rich did his part to elect Bush in 2000 and 2004
Hope he at least admits to that. (well documented in the "Daily Howler" archives)

had no responsibility to get ONLY THE FACTS out there. He had a duty, too, to responsible journalism instead of just worshipping the sound of his own cleverness when he ripped at them.

Now he wants media to take the blame - well, it's about time. Krugman said this a couple years ago when it mattered.

9. When Oprah apologizes for promoting liar Schwarzenegger
as she did James Frey, then I will give a crap what she has to say.

What happened to the ABC boycott? (* yes, it's on an ABC affiliate here in SF)

17. What did Leno do?
I'm out of the loop and don't watch late night TV and if I did it would be Letterman no matter what station.

18. He's giving free time to Schwarzenegger before another election
on his show and not offering equal time to Angelides - and he thinks that's perfectly fine.

19. There is no requirement to post links on threads in GD or GD:P.
Edited on Thu Oct-12-06 11:58 PM by Crunchy Frog
I'm not sure what the OP would have linked to anyway, as it was about a real time discussion happening on a well known television program. If you're unfamiliar with who Oprah is, you can always Google, but I think the OP probably assumed most readers would be familiar with the reference.

If you disagree with DU policy on requiring links, you may want to contact the administrators with your suggestions for adding some new rules. http://www.democraticunderground.com/contact.html

14. I am a newbie SAHM who never watches Oprah...
because she's just not my thing. I worked full time for most of my life, so not only did I not see her show, but even after I did quit working it was just not something that I found intriguing. However, I must admit, once I heard that she was going to have Rich on her show... well, I had to tune in.

I am pleasantly surprised by this show. I'm listening to it while I cook dinner for the kiddo and I and am recording it so I can watch it later without interuption. I can't say I'll watch her again, but on this particular topic, she seems very sincere. This is something that needs to be seen by those who are not as aware of what is going on in our world and I think a lot of moms, working or not, are sucked in by the propaganda that has been puked on us.

Aside from that, I'm also pleasantly surprised to see that the majority of the audience has not purchased the pie. Her audience, at least on this show, is more well-informed and perceptive than I had previously believed. Perhaps this is a good sign?

FYI: She is not on an ABC syndicate here.
