Bell accepts Kerry's helping hand
By JOHN MORITZ

HOUSTON - U.S. Sen. John Kerry, the 2004 Democratic nominee for president, will be stumping in Texas next week for gubernatorial candidate Chris Bell, even though the veteran Massachusetts lawmaker was trounced in the Lone Star State by President Bush.

"We are thrilled at the news that a national Democratic leader like Sen. Kerry has offered to lend his hand in helping to return a Democrat to the Governor's Mansion here in Texas," said Heather Guntert, Bell's spokeswoman. "We look forward to his Austin visit next week as an excellent opportunity to excite the Democratic base throughout the state."

The announcement, made as Bell was planning to attend a reception in Houston for the Tejano Democrats, came amid a series of ethnically tinged back-and-forths between the Democratic challenger and Republican incumbent Rick Perry. Earlier in the day, the Perry camp put out a news release chiding Bell for reducing his TV ad buy in South Texas, suggesting that the Democrat is taking the Hispanic vote for granted.

1. K&R
Instead of just calling them crooks and liars, we might consider adding Racist to the list of Republican labels of infamy.

4. Kerry
Again this morning CNN was doing a smash on Kerry claiming he has given only thousands of dollars to other campaigns. We here with little investigation know better, but they keep trying to beat him down. Can't help but to wonder why.

5. Good for him. I can't stomach the "distancers", which I've seen too

much of in the last 10 years. The idea that Kinky Friedman could even be taken seriously as a remote possibility is sad. Bell's smart, it's more factional now. You want the hard core Democrats.

Kerry got almost 3.0 million voters in 2004 (probably more but ya know) and he's improved in everybody's eyes. Soon, we won't be able to find anybody who voted for Bush in 2004.

Go Bell. KR

6. I ran with Chris Bell in the Race for the Cure this morning.
We had a pretty good team turnout and a lot of folks seemed to know who he was. :)

8. I love seeing this. Democrats supporting Democrats means
Democrats acknowledging other Democrats' virtues.

Chris Bell is less famous than John Kerry, but an America in which both were component members of our government would be a lot better than the yahoos we've got in there now.

Go, Chris Bell, and thank you, John Kerry.

Go, Democrats.
