Rove Road-Tests Tougher Attacks
Washington Post:

Republicans have been promising they would ratchet up the rhetoric against Democrats in the final two weeks of the fall campaign, and the man President Bush called "The Architect" of his political campaigns offered a preview of what they have in mind on Friday night.

Appearing in support of embattled GOP Rep. Thomas M. Reynolds (R-N.Y.), Karl Rove offered biting jibes against House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.), took a shot at the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and asserted that Democratic policies would leave the country weaker.

"You can't say I want to win the war but not be willing to fight the war," said Rove, Bush's top political adviser. "And if leading Democrats have their way, our nation will be weaker and the enemies of our nation will be stronger. And that's a stark fact, and it's the reason that this fall election will turn very heavily on national security."

What should our response to this be?

2. Rove is a desperate little man right. And someone who has never
thought that lying and cheating were wrong certainly isn't going to suddenly develop scruples. There's no news here. Just affirmation of what a dirtbag the fat bastard really is.

3. Laughter.
The scare tactics won't work this time; they've worn thin. Rove's got NOTHING else and he's desperate. The ads are silly and we need to laugh at them.

6. What about this:
"If Karl Rove had advised the President to send our soldiers to the right battlefield, then the war wouldn't have been widened when Bush invaded Iraq based on the lies Rove constructed. Our enemies have been emboldened by Karl Rove's errors in judgment in advising the President regarding the war in Iraq. And our soldiers continue to bleed and die for his mistakes and his lies.

The American people clearly believe that it's time for the lies and mistakes to be stopped, and for any continuing war to be waged in a much different way."

(It just seems logical that we ought to implicare Herr Rove in the conversation, since his advice has been the one that everyone in the administration has taken from the beginning. It's Rove's War as much as it is Bush's, and failing to attack him -- go after their strongest link, remember -- allows him to continue to "wage war" uninterrupted. Rove is the architect of much more than Bush's elections*, and his role has never been properly credited for its faults.)

7. Stupid Talk
Rove Says: "You can't say I want to win the war but not be willing to fight the war."
Did Rove actually say that? He has never been willing to actually fight a war in his life, including this one. Ridiculous pansy jerk.

And now the Repugs are running an ad featuring bin Laden. Bin Laden is still around, directing attacks against the world because Bush/Rove were too incompetent to send enough troops and to spend enough time to get him.
Are there really any people out there who won't realize this?

8. Unfortunately, yes
They have driven this car to victory three times.

It doesn't wash with any of us here, but that isn't the point. Karl Rove is of course an ass, but that's not an effective response to his charge.

(Gee, I wish I was having an reasonably intelligent discussion instead of the same old ad hominem back-and-forth that doesn't really get us anywhere. Anybody else?)

So sorry, PDittie, that you have such a difficult time finding anyone intelligent enough to discuss things with you.
By the way, there could be no intelligent discussion concerning Rove's comments. His comments do not warrant discussion, only dissection.

11. Well, it's just part of the character
of this forum, though with Ground Zero closing fast you'd think people would be able to focus a bit better.

It's not the people but the nature of the discussion, or dissection if you prefer. These are all intelligent people on DU but the drive-by postings here are perhaps not up to their usual standards. If we are to counter anything Karl Rove says it simply can't be done with laughter and one-liners.

The Lounge-ification of DU is almost complete. *heavy sigh*

9. Sounds a lot like what THEY all did during Vietnam
"You can't say I want to win the war but not be willing to fight the war,"

Really so you didn't want us to win Vietnam either?
