Fighting the good fight & I still got plenty for the Flying Monkey right
Born (1929) and raised in Detroit, Rep. Conyers was educated in city's public school system. After serving in the National Guard and the United States Army Corps of Engineers in the Korean War, he returned to Michigan where the earned both his Bachelor of Arts (1957) and Juris Doctor (1958) degrees at Wayne State University.

John Conyers was first elected to the House in 1964...

John Conyers was there with Martin...

Congressman Conyers was also a member of the Judiciary Committee in its 1974 hearings on the Watergate impeachment scandal and played a prominent role in the recent impeachment process, giving him the distinction as the only Judiciary Committee Member to have served on both panels.

Congressman Conyers is also one of the 13 founding members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) and is considered the Dean of that group. The CBC was formed in 1969.

For more than three decades, Congressman Conyers has led efforts in Congress to reform the health care system. He is the founder and chairman of the Congressional Universal Health Care Task Force.

Civil rights icon Rosa Parks served on Conyers' staff between 1965 and 1988. Rosa, by the way Rosa fought the good fight untill the day she died. John Conyers son & Rosa Parks...

He appeared in Michael Moore's documentary Fahrenheit 9/11 discussing the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks, stating that members of Congress "don't read most of the bills".

Conyers frequently posts at Daily Kos and Democratic Underground. Since May 2005, he's been a contributing blogger at The Huffington Post and his own blog.

On May 5, 2005, Conyers and 88 other members of Congress wrote an open letter to the White House inquiring about the Downing street memo, a leaked memorandum that revealed an apparent secret agreement between the United States and the United Kingdom to attack Iraq in 2002.

In May, 2005, Conyers released What Went Wrong In Ohio: The Conyers Report On The 2004 Presidential Election, which discusses the voting irregularities in the state of Ohio during the 2004 Presidential Election.

From Wiki:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Conyers & http://www.house.gov/conyers/news_biography.htm

For well over 50 years John Conyers has unflinching fought the good fight. After more than 50 years John Conyers is going strong & shows no signs of quitting, no sign of being tired.

John Conyers is 73 years old. How could I, at 48 even consider being tired?

4. Are you asking me that because of my post?
;) Yes, sort of, because it's been a long haul. But I have hope in my heart, and when I see posts like this they renew me.
I tend to be an optimist when everyone else is blue, though I've been down, too.
Now, I'm back to hopeful!

19. Yes, I am tired. And when I'm tired
my habit is: keep going.

Tiredness will recede. The future belongs to the persistent.

Never give up. Conyers didn't. King didn't. Parks didn't. They are all inspirations, especially powerful when I'm tired.

15. This may sound funny, but
I love his voice. He has one of the greatest, most calming, most dignified voices in Congress. I could listen to him talk for hours.

He's a national treasure and like everyone else on DU, I admire and respect him tremendously. His generation, like Lou Stokes and others, made tremendous gains in Congress and elsewhere at great risk to themselves. They came of political age in very dangerous times. They are fearless. It is easy for him to stand up to the Bush adminstration, he's faced much more dangerous situations.

Like everyone else, I'll sure be glad when this election is over. I'm about worn out, but nothing compared to how the candidates feel. I still have a lot of fight left!
