HRC > JM > HC
be wary of polls ... pollsters know that you could get totally different results with minor changes in how they ask their questions ... for example, "do you prefer republicans or Democrats?" might yield very different results from "do you prefer Democrats or republicans?"

check out the latest absurdity below:

source: http://politicalwire.com/archives/2006/10/22/its_all_in_the_name.html

It's All in the Name

A new CNN poll asked respondents whom they preferred among potential 2008 presidential candidates. The results: Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton leads Sen. John McCain, 51% to 44%. However, Sen. John McCain defeats Sen. Hillary Clinton, 48% to 47%.

Confused? McCain has a much better shot of landing in the Oval Office if Clinton doesn't use her maiden name.

1. Middle name makes Hillary seem tougher
Maybe McCain nees a middle name like "Windchecker" or "Bushbot" or the ever popular Republican middle name "Peoplehater".

2. What scares me is that these 2 (or 3) are the choices
we're gonna have. Is this the best we can do? Of course I'd vote for HRC or HC but jeezus, isn't there anybody else out there?

Perhaps she'd do even better if she got rid of the "C" altogether and just ran as "Hillary Rodham"?

3. Polling is a business.
Pollsters are paid to get certain "results". It is true that they are constrained to varying degrees by the need to maintain "credibility", but it is never the case that their job is to report on some theoretical "objective" reality. If they don't produce a "result" that is pleasing to the customer, they will lose business. The point is not so much that they are corrupt, although some are, as that they are not unbiased reporters, that they have a private agenda. And there is never anything scientific about political polling, which is always - by definition - about subjective matters.

4. One thing NOT to do, is let Republicans dictate the tone of the flow..
They do it all the time when the limelight shines on Democrats.

democrats have to start making up their own ground rules; like they know WHO they ARE!

Her name IS Hillary Rodham Clinton..and thats the end of it..

You say softly and calmly, we don't "allow" variations of her name,..smile.. it's Hillary's wish...period!

6. After a certain point, we have to say, "Screw the polls!"
Polls can be very useful for determining trends and teasing out hidden constituencies, but in terms of absolute predictions, they are not particularly useful, and are often prejudicial.

When we as Progressives wage political war, we ought to just forget about the polls. HRC won't have that prerogative, but we must.

If we want Progressive politics to become the standard for America -- and keep Hillary from sliding to the Right, which she's done once already -- we'll have to speak up without looking at the polls first. And the more certain we are of our own opinions, the easier it will be for all politicians, and not just Hillary, to avoid those Rightward swings.

And for another thing, it's the only way those polls can be changed.
