New Quinnipiac poll: Florida Governor's Race Now in a Dead Heat!
October 23, 2006

Quinnipiac Poll: A Dead Heat Now

Quinnipiac University released a new poll Monday that shows the race for governor has narrowed to a statistical dead heat with Democrat Jim Davis showing dramatic gains among independent voters.

Headed into the first statewide debate between the two candidates, Crist has 46 percent and Davis 44 percent, with eight percent undecided. The poll says 11 percent of voters might change their mind before Election Day. In the space of two weeks, Crist's 50-43 lead among independents has evaporated and Davis now leads among independents, 50 to 36 percent. (The poll was taken Oct. 18-22, 816 likely voters, MOE +/-3.4 percentage points).

As voters focus on the race, Davis is quickly making a stronger impression with voters, the poll shows. Two weeks ago, 57 percent said they didn't know enough about Davis to have an opinion. In this poll, that figure is 23 percent.

"The Florida governor's election is now a real horse race," said Quinnipiac's Peter Brown.

1. Of course it is! The republican has to win in Florida
It would be a slap in the face to BushCo if little Jebbie turned the state blue on the. So they'll make sure it stays red, at any cost. Look for more of these "narrowing" of the races as the final hours bear down on us.

5. You are misreading the results
The poll indicates it is the Democrat who has gained support:

Quinnipiac University released a new poll Monday that shows the race for governor has narrowed to a statistical dead heat with Democrat Jim Davis showing dramatic gains among independent voters.

Also, why do you put the word "narrowing" in quotation marks? Are you claiming that races tightening two weeks before an election are a grand conspiracy?

7. You're right...I flipped the results.
However, you've shown your true colors. When you try being a mole on an opposing party's message board, it is best not to use the phraseology of the people you're really shilling for. Even real democrats who don't necessarily believe in rigged elections don't go the standard GOP hyperbole route and call such talk "a grand conspiracy." That is one of the five methods righties use to beat down a losing argument. You did know that, didn't you? Say hello to Library Lady for me.

2. Wow! I thought that was a sure thing for Crist
It is great news that Davis is pulling up even! I hope that 11 percent swings his way.

3. im afraid floridas vote counters both human and mechanical dont play fair.
there is a debate tomorrow night. im sure anyone who watches it will see what a vacant empty suit charlie crist is. he has been a total waste of space as atty general.

davis is smart and decent but you never know what perceptions will be in a television debate.

6. That's good
I hope the race continues to narrow in our favor or at least stay close. I was wondering if Florida was moving back to being a more Repug state after the disappointly large win by Shrub in '04. Maybe having Bill Nelson trouncing Katherine Harris in the Senate race and the effects of the Foley scandal will help the Dems in other races this year.

9. Jeb Will Never Allow Davis To Win, Sorry
At least for now, FL is a lost cause, IMO. I hope I'm wrong, but that's just the way I see it. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if K. Harris somehow "wins".

10. Is any major group watching what Jeb is doing with the purge
of the voting rolls in Fl this time? That has been a BIG problemin every recent election. I know I've read articles about some diff. groups watching it this time, but I haven't heard anything recently, and I'm sure, whatever he was going to do is already done!
