Why do people hate Hillary Clinton?
I was not politically active during the Clinton administration, but I remember my father (still a staunch Republican) railing against Hillary every chance he got. What is it about her that makes people on the right hate her so much? Did she do something or try to do something?

2. She was a strong liberal woman, so the Republicans hated her
Now some Dems think she's a weak conservative woman, so they hate her.

You can't win in politics. There are no popular politicians. Just pre-despised politicians.

9. Yep ...
Fact is, she was so clearly capable, that Bill Clinton was not even through his first term when they started engaging in a nonstop campaign to tear her apart preemptive to her making a presidential bid ... These people THRIVE on hatred, and Hillary has been target number one for over a decade now ...

As noted ... Being that she isn't a flaming liberal, the more left pole of the dems nips at her heels ...

5. "Staunch Republicans" blame Hillary for EVERYTHING, even more than Bill
My wife's ex-boss is one of 'em. It didn't matter what political topic came up, he'd always bring it back to Hillary. Everything that went wrong with America is a direct result of something Hillary did.

Strong women scare the piss out of most American men, sad to say. We're a pretty backward country in that way (among many ways).

...for me. I will not support ANY candidate who voted in favor of the IWR unless they recant and explain their vote, and run on a platform of opposition to the war and occupation. Hillary Clinton has done much to enable the PNAC neocons.

8. The demonization by the right wing.
Hell, they even called her a murderer (Vince Foster).
Pretty strong stuff. It lingers.

That's one reason why I don't want her to run for President. These lunatics will knock down all doors to vote against her. That would skew the results of many, many races down ticket. We need somebody without that kind of baggage to run in 2008. I'm hoping Gore, but it literally could be anybody at this point.

12. Republicans hate her with the intensity of a thousand burning suns
but I really don't know why.
Since they don't like her husband because he had an affair, I fail to see the logic of why they dump on the cheated on wife.

However, as I've said before, irrational as it may be, BECAUSE they hate her so intently, I think a presidential run on her part would be needlessly bogged down deflecting that irrational hatred and we would be better served to choose someone else at this time.

20. she was viewed
as someone who didn't accomplish much of anything on her own, but rode the coattails of her husband. She was obviously very bright and accomplished academically, but she only worked in the "real world" for three years (though quickly becoming partner at a prestigious law firm).

So, she was viewed as someone who was a "stay at home" mom for 15 years, who had a law background before that and all of a sudden thought she was qualified to completely overhaul the healthcare system.

I think her detracters thought she was overstepping her bounds (as first lady, not "co-president"), was completely unqualified for what she was undertaking, and was just offputting and pompous.

36. That makes sense
But I don't think that's it. If anything, conservatives go out of their way to emphasize how brilliant and calculating she is. I think Limbaugh even called Hillary Clinton a genius. Conservatives talk about Hillary w/the same tone of hushed awe & fear that liberals will use when discussing Rove. So, IMO the hatred isn't because they think she's dumb or incompetent, but more because they are scared of her.

26. I am not so sure that all people hate Hillary Clinton, only those
...who believed she should have caved in after four years of relentless attacks and ridicule of Bill Clinton's philandering while occupying the Oval Office. She did not of course and the right wing came to loath that display of strong will and strong character in Hillary Clinton. I admire her for that very strength and the fact that she no doubt could hold her own even against the barrage of attacks from the Bush White House. The democrats need about two dozen more strong politic ans like Hillary in Congress and both houses would soon be purged by the weak[kneed and slim lizard republicans that slither down those haloed but corruption stained halls from the last six years of republican domination.

31. The reason why Republicans hate Senator Clinton is because she.....

1.She is a true Republican as a Barry Goldwater type. He even supported her: Goldwater supporter Hillary Clinton he states: "If he'd(Bill Clinton) let his wife run business, I think he'd be better off."

2.She once made the comment that: I have gone from a Barry Goldwater Republican to a New Democrat, ... —Hillary Clinton

3.She is way to smart for these wacko's that have control of The Republican Party.

4.She had a hand in helping impeach Nixon.

32. well, if i can give an honest assessment, and not necessarily my personal opinion
I think people find the way she speaks annoying and robotic. I think people look at her and see someone who is less of a real person, and more of a hatched-from-an-egg-politician. She's very careful with what she says, and I think that turns people off. She never seems relaxed and when she smiles or laughs it seems very forced.

Now, this isn't necessarily what *I* think of her. But from what I've gathered, people seem to respect hre more than they actually like her. At best, I think people admire her more than they connect with her.

She has shown her self to be far to willing to sell out to corporate interests for my taste. Two of the many events that lead me to this opinion are her support of Tata, and their very generous contributions, while her state was one of the hardest hit by their practices, and her support of the "bankruptcy protection" act, even though she ducked the final vote (for cover IMO), she voted in favor of it twice before.

Corporations over people, Immoral war of choice, Sure to fire up the opposition, equals no vote from the Greyhound.

and I respect her as a Senator, though I have some serious disagreements with her.

I do think that she would be a catastrophic choice as a presidential nominee. Not wanting her as our presidential candidate is not the same thing as hating her though.

Edit: Sorry, didn't read the whole question. I think there has been a deliberate and highly orchestrated RW propaganda campaign going on for the past 15 years to paint Hillary into some sort of Satan figure. I think alot of people on the right hate her almost as a conditioned reflex, simply because all they hear is the Hate Hillary propaganda. It's been awhile since I've made a foray into RW hate radio, but when I used to listen to it, there was always a concerted action to paint her as some sort of anti-Christ.
