Important Minnesota Update - Congressional Races
After endorsing Gil Gutknecht in the past, the Star Tribune is endorsing Tim Walz (DFL). They also endorse Coleen Rowley (DFL), Jim Ramstad (GOP), and Betty McCollum (DFL) in the 1st through 4th Districts respectively.

At the following link, the Star Tribune gives interesting reasons for endorsing the said candidates: http://www.startribune.com/561/story/756680.html

I would suspect the endorsements for districts 5-8 are yet to come and I would guess they are as follows:
5th: Keith Ellison
6th: Patty Wetterling
7th: Colin Peterson
8th: Jim Oberstar

That leaves Ramstad, a moderate Republican, as the only Republican endorsed by the Star Tribune this election. There is no doubt in my mind the Congressional candidates out of Minnesota this election are the best there has ever been. Please, if you could, donate to one of their campaigns, especially one of the three very competitive races: Tim Walz, Coleen Rowley, and Patty Wetterling.

1. I sent another check to Coleen Rowley today
and will phone bank for Patty tomorrow.

We need to win these - and the governorship too.
Who do you think the Strib will endorse there?

4. Their endorsement of Ramstad was disappointing
and I suspect they did it to look "bipartisan". On the one hand they say Ramstad has voted with Bush more often than they'd like, but those votes are "tempered" by his strong stands women's rights, the environment and education issues (apparently they haven't paid attention the last couple years.) With Wilde, they could have had someone who was right on women's rights, the environment and education and ALSO right on Bush tax cuts and the war.

5. Further...
I think their endorsement of Ramstad was sincere. I'd suspect they've traditionally endorsed him. They even endorsed Gutknecht last time.

For governor, I think they'll endorse Hatch. They lean left and Pawlenty, despite what people think, is not popular.
