Lynn Cheney to Blitzer: "we inherited a recession"
nice try. But even if you did, and if you were planning on a war all along, why did you go ahead with generous tax cuts to your cronies? Why did you go ahead and expanded the government and contributed to the largest deficit in the history of this nation?

1. That has to be a joke. I'd like to see her try it on Lou Dobbs...
I can't imagine him finding it funny, a bobblehead lecturing him on the economy.

19. So Clinton inherited a recession from GHWB, Carter from Ford/Nixon
Hey what comes around goes around.

If recessions are caused by fiscal policies of the previous administration, than Carter inherited from Ford/Nixon
GHWB from Reagan
Clinton from GHWB
etc.

2. I'm so sick of these repuke wimps
they can't accept responsibility for anything. Clinton never blamed daddy Bush for handing him Somalia, Haiti or Bosnia, a huge deficit or the WTC bombing which happened about a month after he took office. He did his job, he was a man.

Six years and they still blame him?
All bow to the mighty Clinton who did everything!

13. It's a Republic thing, blaming others for their own failures
Reagan did it to Carter almost the whole 8 years he was in office.

23. I remember a discussion shortly after 9/11
one of them was Clinton's economic adviser during his first term - Laura something.

And I remember her saying that lucky for us, we have a major surplus so that we can dedicate funds to fight terrorism, to help NYC and the airlines.

That perception, obviously, did not last long..

Edited on Sat Oct-28-06 02:13 AM by sandnsea
Doesn't show a recession until after 9/11, and is talking about a "recession coming". Just another lie they've told so many times people think it's the truth??

11. Well, she was there to defend hubby (and to muzzle him)
that he did not mean torture..

And she was upset with Blitzer talking about her "Sisters" book, instead of her new kiddie one.

And she was complaining about the CNN programs "broken government" and all I could think was asking her why she does not follow hubby and keep her set tuned to Faux News where she would be happy with whatever she is being fed, finishing her meals with Kool Aid and be forever happy.

18. You inherited a budget surplus, compliments of Bill Clinton.
Anything bad happens, it's Bill Clinton's fault. Or it's Bill AND Hillary Clinton's fault. It's Chelsea's fault. But the Clintons are definitely to blame for any negative topic on the ledger, no matter what it is.

Also: liberal Hollywood. Those craven liberals out there are the root of America's ethical turbulence. Meryl Streep. Barbara Streisand. Robert Redford. Sean Penn. Damn them all to hell!

And the liberal media in general. Those slobbering anarchists at NBC News and Al Franken and needless to say, every single person at the New York TIMES.

And Ellen DeGeneris. She single-handedly has brought down public education in this country.

Etc.

If Mrs. Cheney isn't able or willing to participate in responsible public discourse, which includes pertinent questions from the press, she should lock herself in a toolshed in Yellow Knife and leave the rest of us alone.

22. lying sack of crap
Business Week: Inventing The "Clinton Recession"…The CEA's Economic Report of the President, released Feb. 9, unilaterally changed the start date of the last recession to benefit Bush's reelection bid. Instead of using the accepted start date of March, 2001, the CEA announced that the recession really started in the fourth quarter of 2000 -- a shift that would make it much more credible for the Bush Administration to term it the "Clinton Recession."

http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/04_08/b3871044.htm

According to the National Bureau of Economic Research, the recognized authority on this matter, the last recession actually began in March 2001 under the Bush Administration

24. And here is the real reason for the Recession, it was the Fed
a.k.a. Alan Greenspan

From a graph printed on Oct. 31, 2001 from the CNN site:

Anybody who has studied Macroeconomics knows to cool off an economy is to raise interest rates, and this was done by the Fed as a monetary policy to ward off inflation. Yes this action will throw the country's economy into a controlled recession. In May 16, 2000 the interest rate was at 6.5%, then starting in Jan. 3, 2001 the interest rate was being lowered all the way to Oct. 2, 2001. Of course there was Bush Jr.'s tax cuts (a fisco policy) that where put into place after Sept. 11, 2001 on top of the earlier tax cuts. These were there to keep the U.S. economy from collapsing into a depression. Then more tax cuts on top of subsidies to strategic industries. Of course, the small businesses (middle class) barely got any breaks (or help) and they are the real entities driving our economy.

25. Wolf is not the kind of guy
that will go up against any right winger with any truth that he may have. He will let them have all the room they need to make any charge they wish and Wolf will not get in the way. Wolf will let em spew out all their venom against any and all Democrats, and Wolf feels like he will be rewarded by the right if he allows any republican guest to speak without interruption.....

"What we need right now is a clear message to the people of this country. This message must be read in every newspaper, heard on every radio, seen on every television. This message must resound throughout the entire Interlink! I want this country to realize that we stand on the edge of oblivion. I want every man, woman and child to understand how close we are to chaos. I want everyone to remember why they need us!"
You could use these words spoken by the Chancellor in V for Vendetta and rightly come to the conclusion this is what bush, rove et al really want the citizens to believe.....

26. For the record, THE website where economists record business cycles
says that the economy reached a peak in March 2001, AFTER Dubya took over from Bill Clinton. See http://www.nber.org/cycles.html.

Also, during the 2000 campaign, speculation among economists was that Cheney and Bush were deliberately trying to engineer a recession, "talking the economy down" to pave the way for huge shifts of FICA payroll tax revenues from the poor and middle classes to the top 1% of income recipients. See item #1 at http://www.mediaresearch.org/cyberalerts/2000/cyb20001222_wknd.asp .
