What's it like now in close-race districts?

If you're in a district with a close and important race for a seat in Congress, what's it like there? Is there a lot of campaign activity everywhere you look? Are people waving signs on the street corners? Are friends talking about the issues? Are you getting lots of phone calls? Are people coming in from out of town?

close race between Kirtsten Gillibrand (D) and John Sweeney (R). Yes, to all of the above. Bill Clinton has even been here to campaign for Kirsten. This is the first real challenge that the Weeney has had, he's been there for eight years. Polls are looking good but vary from way up, way down and two in virtual tie. Response of people to canvassing and phone calls has been excellent.

I'm in the 2nd largest county in the District, and the area is heavily Repug, but the R candidate is such a jerk, it's a close race. Plus our guy is great. Anyway, the Repug has hardly been seen in the county, after being thoroughly embarrased at a debate in early October. I mean a complete trashing. He was rumoured to have been in town last week, but nobody knew it. The Dem, meanwhile, was here last week to four fundraisers, and is coming back again 11/2 for a rally. Other than completely negative ads, I don't think the R is doing much. And, we out raised him monetarily. Can we win? Yeah, maybe, I think so. PS, this is the heart of the beast...Focus on the Family is in the District, and the Repug is Dobson's hand-picked guy!

TV ads all the time, a few radio spots, lots of interactive contact. The seat is vacant because the guy who had it is running for Governor, and there is a lot of buzz about this as well. The former rep, Jim Nussle, seems to have gone totally batshit crazy. The repub candidate for the open seat is now spending his own money, and a lot of it, to be neg...er...get his message across. Lots and lots of activity.

I'm so impressed with him and wish I could vote for him but I live in TN so I voted for Bredesen and Ford!

And he is leading in a few polls that I've seen so far, but it may yet be too close to call.
