Why are the righties pushing this Chavez - voting machine connection?
It's on Drudge now...which means that tomorrow, it'll be on Fox and Limbaugh and Hannity as well as all the second- and third-string right wing shows, and on and on into the right wing echo chamber.

Is it because they already know they've lost and are preparing to blame it on...ulp...

Hugo Chavez?

Is it going to be Hugo's fault? Or do they know something even more sinister? Or is it simply desperation?

Help me figure this out. What do the rest of you folks think?

Things are really getting weird. What does this mean?

1. Not blaming him directly but implying the machines are stealing it
from the pugs.

5. That's what I can't figure out
Why are they flip-flopping now? E-voting has been championed and defended by the Repugs all along...until now.

3. So when they are caught stealing an election (should that ever happen...)
they can say Hugo framed them?

Just a guess... I have no way of knowing, but it sounds Bushonian.

4. Pre-Emptive Projection of Voter Fraud and Election Theft
They are going to try to steal it, so they need a "patsy".

8. Plausible deiability, then?
They steal it, and muddy the waters by injecting Chavez into the debate.

Mebbe.

11. That's What I'm Thinking...
in fact, I'm pretty sure of it. They know these electronic voting machines can be traced back to many in the GOP and it looks as though they have a serious conflict of interest to begin with. One question everyone here should raise: Why the media tends to ignore this "Conflict of Interest" by the GOP and their "big money" supporters.

7. Drudge stole it from the NY Times

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/10/29/washington/29ballot.html?ei=5065&en=e0c8ab46eb7f870b&ex=1162789200&adxnnl=1&partner=MYWAY&adxnnlx=1162123697-fGdgFeTtCKTTCxcnenqAsQ

The federal government is investigating the takeover last year of a leading American manufacturer of electronic voting systems by a small software company that has been linked to the leftist Venezuelan government of President Hugo Chávez.

This may not be all bad if it makes Repugs as suspicious of computerized voting as we are.

9. Yeah, it's from the NYT
So was Judith Miller.

I don't see how it's in their best interests to make Joe Freeper suspicious of e-voting.

10. This is a way to attack Hugo and try to convince people he really
didn't win the election. They hate him but can't figure out a way to take him down. The coup idea failed them last time.

12. They finally realized that if they can steal the votes then so can
Democratic hackers. Too bad they didn't pass that paper ballot legislation. Maybe we could get some election integrity back now that the repugs know we know how to hack the vote just like they know how.

13. It's because the GOP want to discredit what's going to happen to them next week.
Remember, it's whatever it takes to rally their moth-eaten base.

They will beat the drums of homosexuality, fear of raising our taxes (gasp), antiabortion rhetoric, wars on Christianity, terrorism, fear of taking away our guns (another gasp), that mean old Nancy Pelosi leading the House,

...and those HACKABLE VOTING MACHINES *OWNED AND MANIPULATED BY HUGO CHAVEZ*.

They are throwing the hail Mary pass. And now they have everything to lose.

Subpoenas, investigations, trials, convictions, imprisonment, loss of the GOP gravy train that they cultivated for the last 40 years.

Simply stated, the GOP are looking at losing it all.

Sorry for the CAPS, but these guys are out of ammunition.

They're out of timeouts and the clock is running.

That's what I think, too. Thanks.
