I'd like to congratulate the DU community....

We're all a little tense about the looming midterm elections, but anyone who has been around here for several years will remember the acrimony and incivility that marked the run up to the 2004 election and even, to a lesser degree the 2002 midterms. Perhaps some of the improved collegiality this time can be attributed to the broadly improved democratic candidates' prospects, and some to the absence of national primaries, but still-- it's very heartening to see so much less personal sniping and acrimony this time around. 2004 was insanely ugly. This election is not without its cliffhangers and its disagreements, but it seems much more convivial around here. I'll bet the number of bannings of long-time DUers for misbehavior is much lower than in 2004-- I don't know whether that says something about the developing maturity of our community or whether it's just that the midterms inspire less cantankerousness, but on the other hand it's hard to imagine an election whose outcome is more important than this one, and there is STILL much less incivility being directed at dissenting DUers.

So thanks, DU. Good luck to all liberal and progressive candidates in the coming election, and even to DINOs who can help insure the majority status needed to get key democrats into subcommittee chairs. After the election, lets continue to work for social change in America-- this is only the first step, even if Democrats win big. There is still a long way to go. But for the moment, thanks to all my DU friends for making us a community of proud liberals!

Delivered yard signs yesterday and today. It was so much fun to be visiting, albeit briefly, with Dems all over our area.
