This is a very good sign. If this trend sticks around, it looks like we will win Virginia!

4. Webb's great. But even if he weren't, Allen is so appalling
that I'd be for Webb no matter what.

The Rasmussen poll -- which often tilts toward the GOP candidate -- is encouraging here. Let's push hard and elect a good man for that job instead of the man who holds it now.

6. Lets hope this isn't an outlier
IMO, I think that Webb is now our best possibility for that 6th seat. Corker is unfortunately on the rebound and it's hard to see how Ford wins this one unless turnout for Dems is very high. If Webb really is at 51% then I think that he will win. And I will be so happy if he does.

16. Not an outlier -- DSCC also released a poll today with Webb out front
New Poll Alert: Webb Beating Allen

October 30, 2006
By: Phil Singer, DSCC

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) today released new polling data collected over the weekend showing Jim Webb beating George Allen in the Virginia Senate race. Go to www.fudgereport.net to learn more about the brewing controversy over Allen’s arrest records:

* Webb beats Allen by a five point margin (43-38). With leaners, Webb beats Allen by a four point margin (47-43).

* Bush’s job approval numbers are terrible – 53% of Virginia voters disapprove of the job Bush is doing (45% strongly disapprove).

* Interestingly, the voters sampled in the poll said they voted for Bush over Kerry in 2004 by an eight point margin (50-42), a result that mirrors the actual margin Bush beat Kerry by in their presidential contest (54-46).

* The poll was conducted by Garin-Hart-Yang Research Group and surveyed 811 likely voters. It was conducted from October 26 through October 29 and its margin of error was +/-3.5%.

http://www.dscc.org/news/roundup/20061030_newpoll/index.htm

So today we have a conservative poll (Rasmussen) and a liberal poll (DSCC) showing the same trend, Webb pulling forward in the home stretch. GOTV Virginia!!!

29. You're right about partisan polls
But this is not a fluke. Consider the Real Clear Politics average, which excludes partisan polls and the unreliable Zogby Interactive: Webb is ahead by 1.0%, the first time he has ever led in that poll. And a CNN poll that was conducted during the same timeframe as the one by Rasmussen puts Web ahead by 4.0%

You can stop rubbing your eyes, my friend, what you're seeing is real!

9. Looks more and more like 1994, when the trends accelerated as election day
drew nearer.

I'm sensing a landslide--a major takeover of the House, and near parity in the House.

(Don't want to say it out loud, though...)

Allen 46.80

Webb 46.50

aaarrrggg! I did wonder if maybe Allen used the novel story because they saw some weakness in his poll numbers. I hope Rasmussen is wrong.

I am waiting for his defense to sink in. His defense is almost as bad as what he wrote. He equates lesbianism with pedophilia.

Is Rassmussen still doing his 3 day rolling average? If so these numbers would reflect Friday, Saturday and Sunday...and weekend polls are always suspect. I've seen several articles endeavoring to debunk that claim as an urban myth but I don't buy it. Weekend polls favor the 'Rats.

22. Webb needs to close the deal with his & his son's military service now.
Webb's done it already, but he really needs to drive it home this week with voters that he's still wearing his son's combat boots.

This is his Ace of Spades and trumps Allen on the biggest issue in the election: Iraq & national security.

Allen's at 46 % with or without "leaners", which means at this point Allen can expect 0 breakers (incumbents almost never get the break anyways).
