Can we get ENDA passed now?
Edited on Thu Nov-09-06 05:06 AM by AntiWarPoster
The Employment Non-Discrimination Act that bans discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation nationwide.

Some moderate Republicans like Shays and Castle will join us, so it should pass the House.

What about the Senate? Collins and Snowe and Specter will go along, I think Dems can pass it. It came up before in the Senate but it failed 49-50- that was the margin I think. Senator Byrd voted against it-prick. He probably will again.

I think that Bush would actually sign it. I may be wrong but I think that he would if it passed both houses.

1. You know, I think he might.
God forbid, I'm actually saying this.

I completely agree with you. The very best chance prior to this that we had to pass ENDA was 1993. Clinton was President and Democrats controlled Congress. But Clinton went ahead with trying to lift the ban on gay men and lesbians in the military and, well...ENDA got sidetracked.

This year...sure. I think the votes are there in both the House and the Senate. Sure, Byrd and a few other Democrats will vote against it. But ENDA has always enjoyed bipartisan support.

And I agree, weird as it sounds...I think Bush might sign it.
