This is no time for celebrations. The Robert Gates nomination is a threat to accountability and honesty in government. I don't think a link is up yet, but be sure to find one and listen to Amy Goodman's Democracy Now for today, November 9,2006. Robert Gates was involved in the crimes of the Reagan and Bush administrations -- big time. He's a sneak appointment intended to garner the support of the military for Bush. This is the time to be vigilant not to bask in our successes. America faces greater peril now than before the election as Bush goes into counteroffensive mode.
Bush's choice of Robert Gates is a declaration of a political attack on the American people and on people who want peace all over the world. Gates is an expert at manufacturing bogus intelligence and covering up lies. As is pointed out on Goodman's program, it is ironic that Gates who played such a central role in covering up Iran-Contra and the associated plots and conspiracies was nominated on the same day that Daniel Ortega was elected in El Salvador. I am not so far left that I really like these extreme leftist South and Central American "leaders," but Ortega's election in an apparently democratic process demonstrates the futility and waste of the right-wing tactics in quelling and controlling leftist movements in South and Central American and elsewhere. Our work is just beginning. We have to scream and scream until we draw at least a glance from the MSM to the real threat to us -- the extreme right wing here at home -- these American traitor Tories who want a king not a democracy.
