Poll question: Who did the most to push us over the top?
So many helped to make it happen, yet so little time to thank them all. So I arbitrarily selected some names of those I thought made the most difference. Pick one, or write in your own.

4. Bush and Limbaugh
Everyone Bush stumped for lost. And Limbaugh's 11th hour attack on Michael J. Fox surely must have disgusted so many undecideds that it drove them to the polls.

5. Sid - the young man Allen called Macaca
If Allen hadn't made the Macaca blunder, Webb wouldn't have had the 1/3 of one percent that put him over the top. If we didn't win Virginia, we wouldn't have won the Senate. And we wouldn't have been able to claim Congress, a HUGE difference over just winning the House. Sid definitely put us over the top.

15. Joint effort by many, many, many....
To attempt to give one person most of the credit is really not funny.

Attempting to put it any other way is tacky!

18. Hey, you're only half-kidding!
After all, what other minority voting bloc can claim a 75% Democratic turnout?

That amounted to around 3 million self-identified LGBTs registered to vote in 2000; while I'm sure the number must be higher six years later, I'd say, yeah, nationwide, I have no doubt we pushed it over the top. :)

29. That's not a slur. People refer to "the gays" all the time.
What's wrong with calling heterosexuals "straights?"

They are straight, right? And gays are often refered to as the gays, right? So what's the difference?

30. How is "the straights" a slur?
Heterosexual/straights.... homosexuals/gays. Same difference, just "non formal" language.

NO reason to look for non-existent problems in a positive thread.

40. I'd say it was a one-two punch between Dean and Clark.
Edited on Sat Nov-11-06 05:00 PM by Clark2008
Dean provided the money for the infrastructure and Clark was welcomed in places Dems had, here-to-fore, feared to tread.

P.S. Isn't it ironic that those were the two in the 2004 presidential primaries who had the most grass and net-root support? Isn't it also ironic those were the two candidates that the media "targeted?" With Dean, they put him under such a microscope that no one would survive and, with Clark, they ignored him... completely after December 2003.

for Democratic Candidates, Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Keith Olbermann, The VOTERS (bless their hearts), and a fortuitous series of Republican mishaps and missteps.

Most notable of the latter category:
Bush's horrific performance in the role of pResident
Limbaugh's trashing of Michael J. Fox
Mark Foley = 'nuff said.

All together, a Perfect Storm that swept America clean. :)

Yeah, I voted "Other".

43. Dean got my vote but
there were others too. Bill Clinton came to our district twice to rally for Gillibrand. Both were big events and most importantly both made the news, the local media here did their best to ignore her this helped put her over the top. The Clark commericial also did a lot to help our victory. Emmanuel and Hoyer both came here for fundraisers when she needed the money. Moveon, union support and very motivated base who got out and hit the ground helped and most of all she was a great candidate who listened and worked very hard.

46. Perfect Storm
I think it was just a perfect storm from Big Dog taking no guff from Chris Wallace to
Foley showing just how creepy the GOP is to Olbermann putting it on the line, The Daily Show and Colbert Reporr. There were just a multiplicity of factors. It was mainly getting out the message that the GOP has no real answers for real people ie. Katrina
Just daily force feeding of fear, fear, fear. Which finally fell on deaf ears. Lots of other
factors GOTV inspired by true disgust of *. And lastly people just wanting their country back. Welcome Home.
