Okay it's starting. Anyone left of Attila the Hun will no longer be
labeled a liberal. We are now socialists and god forbid communists.

Taking bets here that all the talk shows are going to be saying this. I'm waiting for Ann Coulter to show up and start talking about shooting the communists who elected all those socialists into Congress.

1. I am to the point of "Who gives a shit about what they think"
They are no longer in power to suck the life out of America....and in 2008 they will know that we will fight them toe to toe...just sayin...

I am so sick of them...

5. Yeah, but they still have control of the media and they are
going to pound at this relentlessly so that the unpolitical among will start believing it. They have such a powerful propaganda machine that we have to fight it every inch of the way.

8. That's true and I think we need to break up the Media
Monopolies.....just like Ma bell....I think that would foster competition....

11. Yes, there are six major companies that own all the media.
We need to bring back the anti-trust laws that forbid monopolies.

3. Hey.....
Haven't seen Ann the Man lately....did she crawl back under her rock? Perhaps Faux News is already foreseeing a cut back in revenues and have decided they can't afford her. Did she peep her head up on Tuesday? I'm sure if she did, her comments would be all over - she did do her column in whereas she gave the Dem Victory a dismissive comment.

4. Forget Ann Coulter. s/he's not the problem right now.
It's the DLC talking points, issued by Al From and parroted by the "usual suspects" (Carville, Rahm Immoral, Hillary, Bayh, etc) that are slandering us right now. Look for them to be all over the Sunday morning lineup.

6. They are part of the problem. They have access to the media
because they are supposed to be the left side in the debate and they really are nothing more than another side of our corporate owned government.

7. Not disagreeing with you
but we just won a big election and now we start to eat our own? Let's leave that for the Repukes.

9. We aren't eating are own. They, the Repubs, are trying to
label us. There are those who claim to be Democrats but who really are only infiltrators, who are speaking for us but aren't. Rush Limbaugh and company turned liberal into a dirty word and I'm surprised many of us weren't hunted. The liberal smear has worn off and this is their new accusation. It's a dirty one too, because many old-timers still harbor fears of communists from the cold war.

Welcome to DU btw.

12. Happy to be here!
You're right, no mention of "eating our own" on this thread. I just left a thread about Carville's machinations in 2004 ... got a bit confused! Too much of this tonight:

10. If Howard Dean is a socialist or god forbid communist
then people are gonna start thinking socialists can't be all that bad. Cold war is long over and we have short memories.

13. Not really, some of your really solid American values types
from the mid-west still hate the Japanese for Pearl Harbor. The first time I tried to explain the concept of universal health care to my stepdaughter she said right away but that's communist. That's how ingrained it is. I have finally been able to explain to her why not all communistic ideas are bad like access to health care and now she understands, but these fears are deeply ingrained. Our government back then did a good job of keeping us fearful of the "red scare".

14. Looming health care cost crisis will change everything
Costs are rising about 7X the rate of inflation and care is getting worse. It's beginning to threaten business competitiveness so we're beginning to see them move to decouple insurance from employment. I say let 'em because then the people will scream for nationalizing the insurance part (at least) and imposing government-led cost containment measures.

Slowly but surely we'll come around. Reality-based politics is making a comeback.

18. So is Canada our Communist neighbor to the north?
And Great Britain is our Communist partner in the "coalition of the willing to kill Iraqis for no reason?"
With examples from the real world it should be simple enough to smack that word "Communist" out of their hands.

20. I hope so. Time to nip their propaganda in the bud before
the repitition brainwashing takes hold on those who trust what they are saying as being true. I'm curious on Monday just how Rush/Sean/Bill are going to spin this new Congress.

15. "Starting"?
It's long-standing tradition in some circles. It's become maybe a bit more prominent in the mainstream, since there are dems from just right of center to far left of center and mediafolk have decided that they need a lexicon for differentiating them.

When in the minority, they were an undifferentiated mass of dems, except to the far right.

16. Socialists? Communists?
That is sooo 1950s!

They will accuse of being converts to Islam and further proclaim that the Prophet Mohammed walked the earth 1400 years ago in order to subvert the authority of a nation as yet unborn in a land unknown to the people of his time and place.

We are terrorists. Got it?

17. So far they haven't said that.
However, if painting Democrats with the socialist/commie brush backfires, you can be sure that they will move on to this or something like it.
