This Is An Illustration of Why We Need TO REPEAL the Patriot Act NOW
When a student who was sitting at a computer in a library cannot produce a college ID during a "random" check and is subdued and repeatedly tasered AS HE WAS LEAVING, things have gotten way out of hand.

Apparently this practice is happening all over the country, from another post "In my area, they tasered a woman who rear-ended another driver. She was slumped over the wheel. They told her to exit her vehicle, and she didn't. So they broke the glass and tasered her through the opening. Then they dragged her out of the car, assuming all along that they had a drunk driver on their hands. (As if it's okay to tase someone because she is passed out drunk.) When the Fire Dept. showed up, they immediately recognized that the reason she hadn't complied was that she was in DIABETIC SHOCK-- blood tests confirmed no alcohol in her system. And the worst part of all: they tased this poor, diabetic woman in her abdomen -- next to her transplanted kidney. Good job."

First order of business, get our rights back first, worry about Impeachment later. We have got to stop the country from becoming anymore of a police state.

7. Empowering bullies
It is indicative of the times in which we live that we now have so many instances of law enforcement running amok.
This administration has given the green light to torture, to confinement without charges, to unprovoked military aggression, to "do it and deny it" behavior.
The local enforcemnt agencies are just following their lead. Indeed, many new recruits on your local police force will come from the ranks of the returning occupying forces in Iraq.
So, don your black T-shirts and cammy's. Load up the semi-automatics. Charge up the tasors.
If they resist, they must be terrorists.

P.S. I wonder how many incidents like the UCLA crime are taking place that are not being recorded or publicized.

8. Definately, I Am Amazed At People Who Say, If He'd Only Done What They Said
or the police don't know who is a threat. Excuse me, but exactly how is not having your ID card at the library or being slumped over your steering wheel threatening in any way? Wasn't there a post not tooo long ago about them tasering a 6 year old girl?

9. Tasers Used On Kids
...The more recent of the two incidents occurred November 5, when a 12-year-old girl who was skipping school was found drinking and smoking in a swimming pool, Miami-Dade police officer William Nelson stated in an incident report.....He said he told the girl he was taking her to school. As they walked to the police car, she ran away. "I advised her to stop several times," he said in the report. She "continued running even to the point of starting to run into lanes of traffic."

Nelson said he used the Taser for his and the girl's safety, striking her in the base of the neck and lower right back.
The girl was released into her mother's custody and taken to a doctor.

"I couldn't breathe, and I was, like, nervous, and I was scared at the same time," the girl told CNN.

About two weeks earlier, a first-grader was shot with a Taser at school when he threatened to cut his leg with a piece of broken glass, authorities said. The boy's family said he vomited after the jolt.
"If there's three officers, it's nothing to tell a 6-year-old holding a glass, if you feel threatened, 'Hey, here's a piece of candy, hey, here's a toy. Let the glass go,'" the boy's mother told CNN. But police insisted using the gun was the only option.

http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/11/14/children.tasers/

Jacksonville police are defending the decision to use a stun gun on a 13-year-old girl at least twice and perhaps more because she wouldn't follow orders, but the state attorney said the incident raises "serious concerns."
The 65-pound girl was in the back of a patrol car Feb. 7 when she was jolted by a 50,000-volt Taser being used in stun-gun mode, according to a Sheriff's Office report. A Taser typically fires two barbs into a target through which electricity is focused, but in stun-gun mode direct contact is made with the target.

10. Test "non lethal weapons" on U.S. citizens in "crowd control" situations
Air Force chief: Test weapons on testy U.S. mobs
This report suggests that the so-called non lethal weapons which are electromagnetic devices are to be used both in war theaters, against civilians, as well as an instrument of  "Domestic Security", directed, for instance, against demonstrators and antiwar activists.

12. Are you sure that these incidents involve the PATRIOT Act? The guy in the
library was screaming about it but that hardly means it was invoked as justification for the police brutality.

Don't get me wrong, most of that thing needs to be revoked but my feeling is that these incidents would have occurred with or without the Act.

13. What the hell does this have to do with the Patriot Act?!!
How does the Patriot Act authorize college police to taser people?

This looks more like a UCLA problem with overzealous campus police than it does an indication of the growing US police state.
