Gordon Raley, who coordinates efforts with churches for Arlington-based Family Health International, said criticism of Obama revealed a shortcoming that sometimes occurs among Christians.
"Even within the church, sometimes we put politics before God," he said.

<snip>
But it was his comments about the White House -- and its occupant -- that got him in trouble with ABC's Broadcast Standards & Practices. "View," which airs on a seven-second delay, bleeped him twice while he was talking about Bush.
ReutersDuring the 2004 campaign, Dean supporters were called "Deaniacs" by the corporate media. Today we see Clark supporters being portrayed as members of a cult. The same is said about supporters of other potential Democratic candidates, but the label is never applied to the Bush supporters.
There is only one cult and that is the Bush cult. In the documentary
Jesus Camp young children were shown praying toward a cardboard cutout of Bush. Isn't that a cult? What if they had been praying at a cardboard cutout of Bill Clinton, wouldn't the outcry from the rightwing been deafening and gone on 24/7?
The animated feature
Happy Feet about singing and dancing penguins is now being attacked by the rightwing for not sharing Bush's values about the environment, or about diversity. Had the movie shown a penguin being killed or shunned for being gay, it would have received rave reviews from the rightwing chattering class.
In the military it is strictly forbidden to say anything remotely critical of Bush. The rationale is that Bush is their Commander-in-Chief and that subordinates should not be badmouthing the chain of command. The problem with this rationale is that when Clinton or even Carter were Presidents, badmouthing the Commander-in-Chief was the sport du jour.
If someone makes any comments in public or the internet about an untimely demise to Bush or Cheney, it is a near certainty that he/she will be paid a visit by one of the goons from Homeland Security or the FBI. Yet, when clear and open threats were made by rightwingers against Democratic office holders, and even sitting Presidents, nothing happens to them.
The reason there is a Bush cult is because that 34% of the population that comprises Bush's hard core supporters don't see Bush as a mere President. They see him as someone selected by G-d to rule America according to G-d's dictates. Consequently, any criticisms of Bush or his policies are seen as an attack on G-d, and an indirect attack on his faithful followers.
So next time you hear anyone talking about a Clark cult, a Kerry cult, a Dean cult, an Obama cult, or even a Hillary cult, remember that there is only one cult: the Bush cult.
